Max is 11 months old persian and he mounted abbi once. We got a new persian 2 weeks ago(Tinkerbell), and he has been on her for the past 2 days, Should I let them continue ~ should i cut them off ~ will he stop on his own? Abbi has been in heat and he will not touch her
. Any suggestions? PLEASE any will help!!!

If you are a beginning breeder talk with your mentor... the mounting will not stop...

If you are not a breeder you need to think about getting him fixed..

Do you have a goal for this breeding? Do you show your cats?

From an article by Mary Baldwin:

....(snip) First you need to be sure the male cat is appropriate and complementary to your girl.

Do the lines mesh well?

Will he correct any of your girl's faults?

Does your girl complement the faults of the male?

Has he been minimally health tested? Has your girl been tested? For example, FIV, FELV, FIP are 3 contagious, incurable, and fatal diseases that can be passed through breeding.

Other problems that you can bring home with you are fleas, earmites, fungus (i.e., ringworm), and bodymites.

You can not force him on her...the cats like scents and maybe abbi dont have the scent that max is looking for..

Most breeders allow the males to mate a few times a day - over a day or two - after that its not necessary.

And I knew a persian breeder who's male would breed with any color persian EXCEPT tortoiseshells! The male was bullied by a tortie when a baby and never went near another tortie.

Cats sometimes have preferences and your male is just picky.
