Now I thought the couple was a little spacy, but maybe I wouldn't have noticed either if there was no gunfire at the time.

But what struck me was, Is that what the city looks like? All deserted and half of it rubble?

Word, Anne, I don't know if I could live there. I hope things are better where you are.

The last line says that the locals came out and gawked at the tourists, so I'm assuming those are local kids.

That is just terrifying! I feel so sorry for all the people who live there and have to deal with this on a daily basis!!

There is a similar photo in Newsweek. There are armed soldiers and rubble everywhere and one man, in the background, nonchalantly, leaning against a building, wiht his arms crossed, coolly observing the chaos. I would not be that calm in a war zone.
