The cats house, we just pay the mortgage..
We just got talking at work, one of the girls had a nightmare last night and is still upset by it. It was so far fetched, something to do with monsters chasing her but to her it was real and upsetting.
I was wondering what kind of dreams others have? Do you have recurring dreams? nightmares?
I've heard somewhere we dream every night we just don't always remember them, anyone know if thats true?
The worst thing for me, although sometimes its a good thing... is waking up in the middle of a dream, possibly for the loo etc and then going back to sleep and the dream picks up where it left off. If its a good dream then Im delighted, if its bad then Im gutted.
Have you ever gone to bed thinking about something to try and make yourself dream about it?
Have you ever dreamt something before it happened? Ever had a dream where someone annoyed you and then when you wake up you just can't talk to that person even though it's not their fault? (I have!)
I remember when I gave up smoking I used Nicorette patches and they gave me horrific nightmares, I think it's because they are a stimulant, they make your brain work overtime. I woke up crying quite a few times after a bad dream.
Sometimes good dreams put me in a good mood for the day. I also dream quite a lot about my friend who died and I love it because I get to hang out with him, even if it's not real.
Tell me about your dreams!!

I had a dream when I was a child that still spooks me out to this day, even though it doesn't have the VERY scary effect that it did then.

Before I went to bed that night I ate a bowl of ice cream, and in my dream the spoon from that bowl triggered the nightmare!

I dreamt that I was in bed and looking out my window by holding a corner of the curtain back, something I used to spend endless amounts of time doing awake. The next thing there was a big, hairy black dog outside my window, and I quickly let the curtain fall, turned my back to the window, turned the light out and tried to go to sleep (this is all still part of the dream).

Anyway, in my dream I remembered that I still had the empty icecream bowl next to my bed, so I got up to take it to the kitchen. The spoon fell out and hit the floor with a clang, and at the noise the dog outside the window ROARED the loudest, most hair-raising roar in the world.

I don't remember this of course but apparently I screamed out loud in my sleep, ran into Mum's room and dived under the doona with her and Dad, shaking like a leaf.

That was SUCH a scary dream, and I've got goosebumps now remembering it, despite that it was 23 years ago that it happened!!

It is AMAZING how a dream can scare you. To a child that would be a very scary dream.

My dreams are fantastic!! I think (and my friends tell me) that i'm a psychoanalyst's dream come true!!

My degree work and dissertation were based around dreams, surrealism and psychoanalysm, so I've done every experiment in the book!!

I still get a recurring dream from when I was a child and when i'm extrememely stressed, I see it while I'm awake - it seriously haunts me for some reason!!

I use to study dreams when I was in high school and part of college.

Some of my dreams have been really wacky. Most of them were representative of what was going on in my life. I.e. your co-worker maybe feeling insecure about something so that's why she had a dream of monsters chasing her.

Try having a bowl of ice cream before going to bed. I read somewhere (and have tested this) that your dreams are enhanced after eating ice cream.

Also, yes, everyone dreams. If I remember right its the stage prior to REM, so even if you don't hit REM, you're still getting dreams. One thing I heard though is if you don't remember your dreams, you are not a happy person. If you can remember them then you're a happy person. Not sure if its true or not.

I don't often remember my dreams, but the ones I do are usually good dreams.
The one dream that really sticks out at me as being the scariest is one I had when I dozed off for a bit after work. It must have been about 4:00 in the afternoon. My fiance gets home about 4:30 so I layed down for a few minutes. I fell asleep and had the worst dream! I dreamed that my fiance was on his way home from work and got into a terrible accident. In the dream a stranger called me fron his cell phone to tell me that my fiance had been involved in an accident and that I should get to the scene asap. The strange thing was that in my dream, I was taking a nap on the bed when I received the call... It was so real. In the dream I got the the scene, which was so realistic because there was a traffic jam due to construction and it was the exact scenary that I had passed on my way home from work that very day! I woke up suddenly and checked the clock. It was almost 5:00, so he was late getting home. I was so scared that I called his cell to make sure he was ok. He was still at work and thought I had lost my mind for being so upset over the dream.

Ooo..I hate those!! Usually I wind smacking a limb on something and waking up with this HUGE bruise there. Then when people see it and question it I have to explain that my BF does not beat me and that it was from a dream...maybe saying he locks me in a closet and beats me would just be easier. People think I'm nuts when I tell them that I bruised myself from a dream.

I seem to have pretty regular dreams that involve saving people from terrorists.

One that really stands out is from a few years ago. I dreamt that terrorists were holding hostages in the basement of my parish school and the pastor and I decided we needed to save them. He asked me to take a pill that would cause me to vomit on the terrorists. This would distract them, so we could get the people out safely. Not sure what that was about, but I have wondered why I had to take the pill instead of him...(I know, took a woman to do the job!)

Not too long ago I had another dream that involved terrorists taking over a cruise ship. This time I was paired up with George Clooney to save the passengers. There was a lot action involved, including us running around the ship with M16's. We did manage to save everyone and as the authorities were hauling the bad guys away, George pulled me aside to tell me something important, but I woke up before he could. Kind of disappointing!

I also have a lot of other dreams that seem to involve a lot of action - not violence though, and I don't find them scary. Who knows!

LMAO at the vomiting on the terrorists bit. I have dreamt about actually being a terrorist before, in my dream it was my sister and I and it was really evil. I was shocked by myself when I woke up. Someone gave me a dream book after that so that I could read up what it meant to dream about terrorism but not sure if I can post it on here...
(and no it doesnt mean we are violent psychos)

I know this sounds crazy, but I have always been able to "control" my dreams....while i am dreaming I am able to tell my self to do things in the dream, I always remember my dreams unless I talk in my sleep...I have found that when my husband says that I talk in my sleep (I will have a whole conversation), I will not remember my dream......

I usually don't remember dreams, but the ones I do remember involve the deaths of people who are really close to me. I have heard that this type of dreams means that someone actually WILL die, but this has been going on for years and hasn't come true yet. Thank goodness!

An example:

A few years ago the wind chill was done to about 40 degrees below zero for about a week. I had a horrible nightmare that my brother was driving his car down a deserted road in the middle of the night in this weather when the car broke down. In this dream, my brother knew he needed to get help very quickly, but there were no houses near by and no other traffic. My brother didn't have a cell phone with him, no extra clothing or heavy blankets to help him stay warm, so he kept getting colder and colder!!!
I even felt the horrible panic and terror he was going through all alone in his car....and then I felt the warmth and comfort he went through while he froze to death!!!! This was a really horrible nightmare, and the fact that it followed such a logical sequence of events caused it to scare the h*ll out of me!!!

I do have very vivid dreams, and recurring ones too. I often dream that my ex husband and I get back together. I dream that I'm lost in my high school and can't find my class, or I forgot my books, or I don't remember my locker combination. I graduated in 1993 so I don't really know why I'm still dreaming of high school! I dream a lot that I'm naked in public,
usually in a really crowded room. I dream that probably once a week or more. I know that one has to do with self-conciousness. My dreams are always vivid, and I almost always remember them immediately or at least throughout the day.

I used to have similar dreams but about college so I contacted a Dream Analyst. Her answer...it was a happy time in your life that you would like to go back to, but your conscious mind knows you don't belong there anymore.

I find my dreams follow the mood I was in when I went to bed. Yesterday I was in a REALLY bad mood (PMS'ing) and I had a dream that my friends and I went to a Renne Faire and they were refusing to let one of us bring in his guide dog. He was arguing with them that by law they have to let the dog in. I stepped in and demanded to see the manager and threatened all kinds of bad publicity including reporters and a boycott from 3 different guilds and 2 different state faires.
I guess I was still in a bad mood while I was sleeping.

I have really vivid dreams too. Some are disturbing, and leave me unsettled for the day. Once in a hostel, I woke with a yell and woke up the whole dorm - got to hear some muttered Dutch swear words!
Often times I'll know in my dreams that I've had a dream of this setting before. And characters recur too. There's like layers to the story line where I'm aware of previous dreams while I'm having the current one.

Elicon - love the vomit pill! That ought to take care of the bad guys!

Alaynna - sounds like "lucid dreaming" to me. That's pretty cool that you can control the dream.

From big dogs to vommiting on terrorists, this thread is pretty cool and interesting.
The last nightmare I had was that I was in a zombie movie, but it was real and not quite a movie. That's the best I can explain it. I was with other people getting chased by zombies. We were at one of the top floors of a huge shopping mall complex that was quite new and nicely built. We were going down flights of stairs to stay ahead of them even though we weren't sure what the conditions would be like as we desended. The zombies made an attempt at ambushing us and it took us by surprise. At one point I ducked away from everyone entirely and went off to a ledge hoping the zombies would pass and continue downward. I've had a few dreams with zombie scenarios in them. I think Resident Evil has something to do with it because I like those games.

Sometimes I have dreams where I'm mad at someone and I still feel the same way when I wake up and realize it was just a dream. I've had many lucid dreams too and when I realize, I always try flying or changing the conditions of the dream. Even though I know it's a dream, I still have a limit on how high I can fly. I think it's because I have a fear of heights.

LOL! I fly in dreams too - until I realise that I'm flying, and then I can't make myself do it any more sooooo frustrating.

Now Wyan, please don't tell me your zombie dream is a result of you liking zombie movies. Max LOVES zombie movies, so one day I watched Dawn Of The Dead with him. I almost died

I used to have the weirdest and most realistic dream about a seaside town.

The dream would reoccur but each time I would be a different person it but the same event were being played out and I would see it each time I dreamt it from a different persons perspective.

I was on a beach, sometimes with my family depending who I was in the dream and the tide had pulled back really far and people were walking out to sea. Suddenly, the tide swept back in sometimes killing me and my family, other times we made it to high ground. Sometimes I was one of the people who had walked out to sea and was the first to die.

Sometimes I had to go back and save a family member, others times it was me who was saved and the worst of all was when in the dream I stepped over people drowning or struggling to save myself from the tide.

The lat time I had the dream was about a week before the tsunami and I havent dreamt it since.

Really freaked me out.
