On wednesday my 6 month old kitten was supposed to be spayed. I dropped her off tuesday night and right after i got home, the vets office called and said that her surgery was cancelled because the vet had a family emergency, so i had to pick her up the next day. I have to call tomorrow (Thursday) to reschedule. However, she's in heat at the moment. I heard that it's bad to spay them while theyre in heat, so how long does the heat last? When will i know itll be absolutely safe to spay her?

Yes, risk for complications and bleeding much bigger when in heat. The tissues gets very fragile while in heat.

Heat is usually 4-8 days, 4-7 prob most common.

If you want to be sure, give her p-pills after this heat, so she will not get next heat...

I saw advice in a british veterinary book to let the cat loose, so she will get pregnant... And after that get spayed. It is MUCH easier to spay pregnant then in heat, especielly if it is early pregnancy thay said...
Seriously. Try the p-pills if you want to be 100% sure.

Just let her complete her heat and then have her spayed. I don't see any reason to give her pills or let her get pregnant, but that's just my opinion.

To be double secure!!! I descibed possible if and buts.

Some cats get in heat almost permanently, althougt this is not the usual.

You Yosemite have of course right. 9 times of 10 it should be OK without any of these.

As most vets won't spay a pregnant cat, that would most likely just end up causing the very situation spaying is meant to avoid.
