Has anyone tried this litter? I just bought a bag today.. and it seems like a really good idea.

According to the bag:

-its made from 100% natural citrus peel.
-neutralizes both urine and poop odors
-reduces tracking
-is environmentally safe
-Is supposed to last longer than other litters, but I generally change mine every couple of days anyway.
-was very inexpensive. It cost the same as my regular clay litter.

of course, in my experience I know that if I find something that sounds like a fabulous idea, there's usually some catch. :p

I bought it for the same reasons you did. I thought it would be a lot better for my cat and I'm sure it was, but I just could not handle the smell!!! It has a very strong rotten orange smell and it gets 10 times worse after they use the restroom in it. It just soaks up the pee and the poop dries out and it leaves an awful smell after a while. I had to throw it all out and buy new litter. I really like tidy cats small spaces. Hope this is of some use for you!!

I knew it was too good to be true!

As of yet, he hasn't used it, so I can't tell how stinky it will be.
I'm hoping he WILL use it, because I don't have a chance to buy new litter until tomorrow.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I've always understood it that citrus smells are very effective cat repellants.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I've used it and liked it.

My cats didn't have any problem with using it (to my surprise, since I'd heard that about cats & citrus too). I just put out a box full and they started using it. They're pretty laid back about my constantly switching litters, though - if your cats are very choosy about their litter you may need to do a gradual switch, mixing a bit of the new brand with the old brand in gradually increasing amounts.

I liked the smell of the clean litter - it smells like potpourri to me.

I know the instructions don't say anything about scooping it, but you do need to scoop out the poop daily, and also scoop the wet patches or they will start smelling bad (really bad) after being wet for a day or so. But so will old-fashioned clay litter, so I prefer the citra-max because its a natural waste product, so it's more environmentally friendly. If you plan to change the boxes every couple of days anyway, odor shouldn't be a problem.

I use a scoopable natural corncob litter currently (fresh results) because I prefer a scoopable litter (I'm too lazy to wash out 4 litterboxes every couple of days), but if I go on a weekend trip and leave the cats I'll fill an extra box or two with citra-max so the cats will still have clean places to go when I can't be there to scoop 2-3 times a day.

Well, so far he hasn't used it, but he only goes a couple times a day.
I'm hoping he decides that he likes it.. otherwise I might wake up to a mess in the morning.

At any rate, it goes with my bathroom color scheme.

Spoke too soon!
He went, and was pretty okay with it. I think the crackly texture/noise kind of put him off, but he got over it. Sam's been so easygoing with me since I got him, I shouldn't have worried. I could probably put an empty pan in there and he'd still go.

Indeeed. So far, none of it has been tracked through my apartment, and the smell is slightly better than usual.

we have a winner.
