Trader Joe's food questions

Hi. I finally got to Trader Joe's and picked up the canned chicken & turkey formula. Thanks everyone for recommending I try it to save a few bucks.
Pros:
It was 1/2 the price of Nutro, Eagle Pack or Natural Balance.
The cats loved it.
Cons:
But it has animal liver and brewers rice in it -- aren't those ingredients to avoid, or is the food still better than supermarket food?

animal liver is one I question ... but with a company like trader joes I would just ask the 800 number on it ... I dont like brewers rice in dry food but in wet is acceptable in small amounts..
