I have a 13 year old indoor male cat (Pepper)
I also have a 3 year old indoor female cat (Bella)

For the past 8 nights, between 3am and 5am, Pepper wanders the house (usually the hallway and spare bedroom) and he meows loud and steady (not a crying meow)...if i call him he will come and lay with us, but he will eventually leave and go into the hall and start meowing more.

I have noticed lately that he is very friendly and he begs for attention (up until a year ago he was very unfriendly)

I am curious why he has been doing this for the past 8 nights when there is plenty of food and water and i have not noticed any changes in his health etc

Thanks for help in advance

Has he been to the vet lately? He should have a senior blood panel drawn. There are a few illnesses that occur in older cats that have some of the symptoms you describe.

Definitely, should consider taking this cat to the vet to have him checked out!

A couple of other things to consider...

1) has your household or living arrangements changed recently? Kitties are creatures of habit and even small changes to their territory may have upset him.

2) could he be seeing a stranger cat outside? I have a cat that has a fit when ferals come up on our porch.

3) is your female spayed?

4) have you had this cat his whole life? If not, you might inquire of his last owner about behaviour.

Sorry for the lack of insight, but kitty behaviour is hard pin-point. Start with health and move down the list. May God bless you with a solution.

I agree it's a good idea to take Pepper to the vet - ask the vet to do a complete senior cat examination, including a full blood test workup that includes thyroid level testing.

A complete blood workup might reveal a health issue in its early stages that might not be noticeable with a regular exam, and if so you can get him started on treatment early. Treatable health issues such as hyperthyroid can often cause behavior changes.

Yes we have had him since day one and there hasnt been any change in the house that I can think of
A week ago Bella had surgery for some eaten string and when she came back Pepper wouldnt go near her, but for the past 4 days he has been laying with her so i cant see that being the problem...guess i will have to take him and have him checked out!!

Hope the vet can help, but pray that it isn't anything serious!
