I can stomach sushi or sashimi if it has cooked fish, like I LOVE the soft shelled crab rolls and I even liked the eel, it was battered and fried I think and then put in a roll...yum! But I can't do the raw stuff, I tried so many times, but, no way!
But cooked Japanese food, I love. There's a place here called Seigo's, like Benihana's, where they do the habachi right in front of you and fling shrimp at you to catch in your mouth, that sort of thing. They have this AWESOME ginger dressing on their salad, it is SO good!
I like the taste of sushi, but I never, ever eat it. The biggest challenge I have is that most of the time, the rolls are HUGE, and I can't stand having that much food in my mouth at once. It gags me. And you really can't cut up a roll. I therefore never eat sushi.
Dom't like fish but the chicken sushi (cooked) is really nice. My Fiance lived in Japan for two years, and studies Japanese, and he of course loves it.
My local Costco was almost completely cleaned out of all it's sushi platters last night...must be due to that superbowl appearance today by the Seahawks
I love sushi and sashimi. I don't buy the sashimi at the local stores, though, I don't quite trust that the fish is fresh enough. The only sushi that I wouldn't try was one with a raw quail egg on it.
In the arctic, the Inuit people will fish for arctic char, and clean it right on board the fishing boat. Then they eat raw fish, still chilled by icy arctic water. I would love to try that someday.
hmmmm.. it's nice to know something new.. over in our part of the world, sushi and sashimi are very common.
Actually, sushi are rice wrapped with seaweed and topped with different toppings while sashimi are sliced raw fish... both can be eaten with wasabi and soya sauce..
I love them to bits... with so much of variety, I can eat them as many as three times a week!
