My girl has a knot the size of a pea that shifts around. it is on the backmost part of her thigh, about halfway up. she has a smaller one (aboue 1/2- 1/3 the size of a pea) on the other leg in about the same spot. Is this a normal part of cat's anatomy, or should I worry?

What's your kitty's history (how long have you had her, where did you get her, etc.)? I know that Spot has a BB in his shoulder, and it feels like a small hard lump that is movable. It doesn't bother him and was there when I found him, so we've left it alone. Cysts can also form little lumps but are often a bit squishier. If it is something new or that you haven't noticed before, it is worth mentioning to the vet.

She's two years old. I got her as a feral kitten at 4 weeks or so of age. The lumps are firm, and feel like they are attached to the muscle themselves, and shift around.

If her shots were a year ago, she probably is due to have some boosters now. I would take her in and ask the vet about the lumps.

Nya has something that sounds much like this, on the back of one of her back legs, pretty much behind the "knee" joint. I noticed it JUST after our last vet visit a few months ago and have been monitoring it for growth/change, which there hasn't been any. I told myself I would bring her in if any changes occured.

Cats commonly get bumps and lumps such as you describe. Keep an eye on it, but don't obsess about it. It could be bug bites, flea bites, or an allergy. If it gets larger, seems to bother her or you feel heat coming off of it then seek a vet's opinion.

I am not quite sure about the location you are trying to describe, but cats do have lymp nodes on the back part of their hind legs at the level of the knee (it is called the popliteal). The fact that you say it is on both legs and moves around makes me think that this is what you are feeling. Tumors and inflammatory bumps tend to be in only one spot or random, not bilateral.

Also there is no way that your kitty got vaccinated in the ribs, and if this is true I would switch vets right away. According to the AAFP FCRP is given subQ (just under the skin) by the right shoulder (some vets just do it inbetween the shoulder blades and this is acceptable). Rabies is given in the muscle of the right hind leg. FeLV if it is given is in the muscle of the left hind leg. The rib area has too many important structures that could be hit, so why someone would stick that area unless they were during a chest tap or something is beyond me.

i shouldve said previous vet. he not only gave them shots in the ribs, but wanted us to wait until a minimum of 8 months to neuter, and made us wait 30 days after shots to spay a girl who was living with an unfixed boy (7 months, so no go by his standard) at the time.
