I have a DSH but would really appreciate it if anyone could enlighten me on what her POSSIBLE genetics are. I understand that there is no way to tell but I have been looking at websites and am convincing myself that she looks and acts like the characteristics for some of the breeds. Please assist me by providing your unbiased opinion. Thank you all very much

Sorry, I can't help, other than the fact that she's a dilute tortie...it's hard when it a common color....she's beautiful though!!

It's hard to isolate any specific traits that would make me think she's anything other than a DSH...she is gorgeous though!

She is a dilute tortie, which means she has a gene which dilutes orange and black into gray and creme. Also, the reason that she is both orange and gray is because she also has a gene for Orange on her final X chromasome and a gene for black on the other X for that pair. Solid oragne girls have two genes for orange on the XX, wheras solid orange males, obviously, only have one and thus don't have the opportunity to have XX orange and they also don't have the correct gene to express the black on the Y, so males can't be tortie or calico unless they are XXY males.

That's all anyone can tell her without doing a karyotype, I think.

Also, since specific breeds were borne of "common" domestic cats, any color pattern, coat texture or personality trait that can be found in a purebred can be found in the domestic cat population. I have one who acts like a bengal and my late Lola looked like a Russian Blue, but they're both former ferals.
