Today, we noticed that Puppy has two small sores, one on either side of his whiskers. One side is red, the other looks better but is definitely missing fur.

We haven't seen him scratch that area. He does rub that spot on the coffee table alot, usually when he's bitting at the corners of the wood. We aren't scratching there anymore, but he does like to be scratched there. He rubs his teeth against our fingers so that they end up in that spot.

What should we do? Just watch him for a couple days and see if it gets better? Or should I make a vet appointment now? What could be causing this?

I can take pictures if that will help.

Yes watch him - dab the area with hyrogen peroxide for a a few days several times a day and see if it resolves the problem. If not call the VET.

all the best

Hydrogen peroxide is not a good thing to use. It actually burns the tissue. If you do use it, please dilute it.

I think I'll avoid the hydrogen peroxide. I know about the tissue damage, it does the same thing to turtles. They're very small spots, anyway.

Would anti-biotic cream be safe? I use it on my turtle, but I wasn't sure if Puppy would try to lick it off. Would it hurt him if he did?

when Pixel had her really bad herpes flare-up, she had sores all over her face, & spreading to her front paws. the 1st vet i took her to suggested neosporin [triple antibiotic ointment] which didn't hurt but didn't help, either. only after the 2nd vet told me it was herpes & to give her lysine did her sores dry up & scab over. you can try the ointment, but if you don't see an improvement, i'd take Puppy to the vet to see what else the sores could be.

Ok, thanks. When we got home today, one sore looks better and the other looks a little worse. It's like the top layer of skin on scratched off. I'll put some anti-biotic ointment on the bad one and see how it goes.
