Is it true that cats hiss when they are angry, upset, or scared?

It means "back off and don't mess with me or you may get bit and scratched."

I think it's definitely a warning your gonna get it. But it doesn't mean all the time that the cat is p.o.'d.

Example: I'm sitting on a bed and Max comes in and gives me "the look" and plops down. I know what that look means. It means "mess with me, come on." So I oblige him.

Within a few minutes things are escalted. He is hissing, ears pinned back, growling...but he ain't moving.

Or he'll get up and move to another spot on the bed and plop back down and glare at me. So I attack him. He fights back. I get bit, scratched, bloodied...and he's having a great time.

And you are indirectly creating aggression with your cat. Not a wise choice. Try instead an interactive toy like Da Bird which cats love, keeps your hands and your smell out of the equation and engages the natural prey instinct of a cat.

What are you crazy? You want me to take one of my birds and let him play with it?

How inhumane can you be?

Naw, I get it....just kidding...but always read the signatures.

Dear, you are indirectly doing what hissy says. I've told you that before. Max is a sweety and doesen't really have an agressive bone in his body - Salem, well she can play a bit rough - not sure if that is just her or what. I definately don't recommend rough play for any cat.

Re: Toys, not sure if "Da Bird" has feathers, from the name it sounds like it does, and (for obvious reasons) we don't let our cat play with toys that have feathers.
