I am a first time cat owner and am worried. I got my kitten a couple of months ago and everything has been fine. But this evening when he was playing on a chair (he lies over the top of it so he can play with his tail) I heard a funny sound. I looked over and he was lying on the chair having trouble breathing. It kind of remnded me of what it would sound like if someone was choking on their food and lost their airway. I was freaking out and didn't know what to do, and then a minute later he was fine like nothing had happened. Is this what happens when they get a hairball, or does it sound like something really serious? I really appreciate any help.

It was probably a little cough or hairball, but it is always best to run these things by your vet. I would call in the morning, describe what you and heard and ask their opinion as to whether or not your baby should be seen.

Kittens are notourious Hoover vacuum cleaners. He may have found something in the corner and tasted it and it might be disagreeing with him-
I actually laughed out loud when a kitten buyer once told me how she had "Kitten Proofed" her home. Like there IS such a thing as kitten proof! *grin*
