We are in the process of building him a big new enclosure. So he is really going to enjoy that

Not that far from Indiana either! It's so be worth the gas prices to see all these beautiful animals.
Well, I will be on vacation starting next week Friday. Maybe we could get something together where you can come down to the facility. Hey, you may even be put to work building Shadrock's new enclosure
It's such a fun event

I have a bunch of cat pics from here on my computer as a screen saver slide show. It's fun when coworkers ask about one of your exotics and I can say "Yup, there's this amazing guy and his wife in Ohio who live with these creatures." They are usually awed!
That's excellent. They get to see the "other side" of exotic animal ownership, not the bad stuff they always show in the media. Thank you

I love your kitties!!!! I can't imagine having such WILD pets! They are beautiful cats!

I do have to say one thing about the laws on pets like yours. I really hate people that ruin it for everyone else. In my home town someone had two cougars and when they got too big he just let them loose in the county. Whoever that idiot was made a really bad choice. One of them ended up shot by a farmer because it was killing his animals and he claimed he was worried about his children, which I don't blame him. It's stupid people like the man who owned the cougars who ruin it for the rest of the responsible exotic owners.

That's awful. People like that make me sick.
How could he just toss them out like they didn't matter? Why would he adopt them in the first place if he didn't want them to get too big? It's obvious (to me anyway) that cougars are big animals. IMO people who act like this man to any animal, not just exotics, should be thrown in jail because it is criminal what happens to some animals.

Yes, it's these morons that mess things up for everyone
What, like he didn't know that a cougar would get big?
That person should have been sent to jail for doing what he did. I would never think of doing such an irresponsible thing with ANY of my cats, exotic or domestic. I take full responsibility with my cats. Living with these big cats isn't always easy, but I would never give them up for anything, no matter what. I made the promise to them when they entered into my life, that I will do the best I can for them. I made the decision to bring them into my life and it is my duty to give them their proper care.

I would say to my wife, adopted a cougar cub? So what else did you buy

Of course, we could work something out

I just found this thread today and have spent many hours sorting through the 58 pages lol!
Glorious cats! I love them all. I noticed something pretty early on though. My friend's daughter works at the cat sanctuary that Carmelo lives at. We have been planning a visit up there for a while since she's always telling me stories about Montana and Toby and Carmelo and all the beautiful cats who live there.
We even sent a couple of rescued domestic kittens up there to be fostered. I called them Mouse and Bear. They already have homes lined up!
What a fabulous coincidence. It would be a real treat to plan our trip when either you or your wife were up so we could see you interact with Carmelo in person.
I have to admit that at first I felt very much that people shouldn't own exotic pets, but I have had to amend that. Absolute statements are just too limiting. I would say now that I think that MORE exotic pets should be owned by people just like you and your wife. People who take the responsibility seriously, who educate themselves, and more than anything, who take the time to love and care for these animals on a more one on one basis.
Having seen animals in zoos, and now your animals, I have to say yours are much happier and more well adjusted. It really is so moving and wonderful to see how they really can adjust and be incorporated into a family.
Humanity in general is selfish and greedy. We take up the land and their natural habitat. That is not something that we will change. We will always encroach.. It's a fact. I would so much rather see these beautiful creatures survive and THRIVE in an environment such as yours and that at the cat sanctuary.
I had heard about the new legislation and I'm glad you are here to educate us. The law abiding people who have these animals aren't the problem, it's the people who abuse and neglect them who are, and they aren't going to pay attention to this law anyway! When the authorities finally find the mistreated animals, where are they going to go??? The only real answer is to places like yours and the sanctuary, where they can live in peace.

Thank you for sharing this part of your life with us.

Holy Smokes, last time I read your posts you had just gotten Carmelo & Nakoma. Looks like your family has grown even more. Some great pictures.

Hello Devlyn,
Wow, how cool is that
What is you friend's daughters name? Is she one of the OSU student volunteers? I am sure I know who she is. If you ask if she has ever seens Carmelo's dad, I'm sure she will know who I am
My wife and I were there yesterday and Mouse and Bear are doing great
If you ever want to come down to the facility, just let me know when would be good for you. I would love to show you our big loving boy Carmelo and all the others too. I would also like to take this time to thank you, for opening up your mind to responsible exotic animal ownership. That is wonderful

Waves at John.

It's been too long my friend! Is that grey fox yours?????? Gorgeous! How many pets are you up to now???
Hello Lorri
Been a while hasn't it. The grey fox (actually I made a mistake, he is a silver fox) is our friend's.
I have lots of new pictures too. So I will be posting them soon.

I know right? It was a cool coincidence/small world moment for me too. I was like.. hmm.. I know that name. I wonder....
My friend's daughter is Jessica and yes, she's doing pre-vet at OSU. I'll be sure to ask about you definitely. I'm so happy that Mouse and Bear are doing well. I only had them with me for a couple of days, but I was really sad I couldn't foster them. I get sooooooo attached though, and don't have the resources for finding good homes like Carol does.
I want to thank YOU for being so forthcoming with what it's like to have these animals in your life. It's like living vicariously through you.

The pictures are just amazing too. After looking at them, I look at my own kitties differently. You can really see the family resemblance, even after so many years of evolving on different paths. It's just a really cool experience.
I will definitely look into planning a trip up there for the near future.
I'm all excited and giddy just thinking about it!! I've heard so much about everyone and it would be awesome to put faces to the names and stories.

Oh yes, Jessica!! I know her. She is a really nice girl and is really good with the cats
Jess likes to watch me feed Carmelo his "beef beef", off of a spoon
Yes, I can feed a big cougar his beef treat off of a spoon. I say Carmelo, do you want your beef? He will chirp and when he sees the spoon, will sit in front of me purring his heart out and he takes the big chunks of beef off the spoon ever so gently. Yes, he is oh so very spoiled

As for Mouse and Bear, they are in great hands. What can I say about Carol. She is such a wonderful lady with such a big heart and she loves all cats

As for living vicariously through me, that is what I try to accomplish. I try to bring a little piece of my experiences, to each and every one of you. That is my goal, every time I post new pictures and stories. I feel so very fortunate, that I get to experience my life with these great cats.
As for our domestic cat companions, it is really amazing to see how much wild, they really do still have in them. It is really awesome when I see a cougar, bobcat, lynx or any other wild cat, do some of the very same things our domestics do

Hey John, love the new batch of photos you put up. Am a little confused though, are handsome Shadrock and gorgeous Basil both your new additions? Have kinda gone MIA for a while back there cos my internet at home was out of commission

Carmelo, Nakoma, Amber, Boris and little Baxter are all looking really good! I wish I could give them all a hug each... THEN kidnap Baxter and bring him home

Shadrock and Basil belong to our friend and they live at the sanctuary, but I feel they are a big part of my cat family as well, because I spend so much time with them. "Shaddy" is such a big sweet boy. We are building him a new home, so I can't wait to get him moved in. As for Baxter, if he turns up missing, I know where to come looking
