i've always had some curiosity about what kind of cat my girlkat is, if anything. i'm sure she's a mix, but i know she was born with this bobtail. all i know about her is that she and her brother were dropped off at the pound when they were kittens and they both had the same bob. the people at the shelter said she was a part lynx, but i find that hard to believe, even if we did live in lynx territory. she has super high back legs though, she's very skittish, aloof and a touch-me-not (except when she demands, which is very rare) and she is definitely wild and a killer. but i've never had a female cat before and i would assume that's typical of them. her tail is about 4 inches long with an l-shaped bend halfway down. she wags it when i talk to her and it sometimes goes in a circular motion, like a propeller. when she feels confident and walks, she holds it high and it looks like someone put the l-shaped tetris piece on her back.
here are some photos of girlkat and her business end. any suggestions?

the closest thing i can think of is maybe she's part japanese bobtail, but they don't come in tabby (not that i've seen). plus, she's always been much stockier than the photos i've seen of them. they're very sleek leggy things, aren't they?

One time when I had that problem, it was because I didn't copy the ENTIRE URL from Photobucket. I had to go back and make sure the whole thing got highlighted before I copied and pasted the URL into my post, and that fixed it. Don' know if that's your problem, but just a thought. Good luck.

to me she looks like a large tabby with an unusual tail. was she born with that tail, or has she had an accident? how much does she weigh?

Sorry, I cannot see the picture either but some sites (do not know about Photobucket) will not allow you to link to them - they call it.... (trying to remember what they call it...) bandwidth stealing or something, not meaning to say you are doing that but for some reason, some sites do not want people using images on their space so they do not allow you do link to them. Maybe if you just psoted the link itself instead of the picture?? This is just a guess - someone with more server experience could help you out more. I'd like to see your little one.

Hey there, beautiful cat! I would say like the previous poster she could just have an abnormal tail. But I think she may be part/full Manx! I have atleast a Manx mix, but since I adopted her from a shelter I can't say which. My BF has a fullblooded Manx. Manx can either have no tail at all, a bobtail, or sometimes a full tail. They have the long back legs like you are talking about, giving them a more rounded look. Sometimes Manx tend to have some dog like tendencies, like playing fetch! Any of this sound like your baby? If you'd like, I can send you some pics of my girl and my bfs cat through the private messaging, just PM me and say so!

thanks guys!
i gave up on this thread, because no one had responded for so long, but then i checked back and had all these responses!
it looks like most of you are having luck with the link, so i won't worry about posting more pictures.
i'm sure she's a tabby mix of some kind, but i started doing more research on my own, and i think she may have some pixie bob in her. the reason i say this is because for one thing, i know she and her brother were born that way, but for another, there's a pixie bob breeder right near the area where she was dropped off at the pound. so maybe one of their sold cats had a night of fun with some tabby who's owners had no idea what impregnated their cat.
she doesn't really act like the descriptions say a pixie bob should act like though, which i would attribute to her definitely being a mix. basically, she could not act less like a dog and more like everyone's typical bad cat stereotype! she doesn't fetch, but she does play "kill". she hides most of the time, and when she does come out, any attention she gets has to be on her terms. all petting has to be on her terms as well. one of the similarities though was that she talks constantly! and if i answer her, she talks back. we can have whole meowing conversations. she never shuts up when she's happy.
To answer one of your questions, she's about 12 pounds and on the chunky side.
So what do you guys think of the pixie bob theory? i got on that idea because one day i was watching "meet the barkers" (i know, i know, but i was bored, what can i say?) and saw their cat and thought it was my girl. just a little google research told me that they had a pixie bob, so i checked out the breeders sites.

The first thing I thought of, when I saw her tail was Pixie Bob mix. Pixie Bob's tails look a lot like your girl kitties tail.

looks like Pixie Bob to me...what little I know of it, but like you, I adopted a kitty from the pound who has these amazing physical and social "abnormalities": naturally bobbed tail, polydactyl, and wow, the chirping, talking, singing that my Ricky Bobby can do!

Unlike you, I can find NO PB breeders anywhere near. Weirdly enough, my kitty was found in a drain pipe with 2 bob-tail, buffy-yellow girl cats. They died. He thrives.

At the prices I've seen for Pixie-Bobs, seems like someone would have come looking, doesn't it? Maybe our cats just "happened" sort of like the "Legend Cats" happened?

Let me know what you find out about your baby, and I'll let you know if I learn something, too.
