Yes, I've seen your manytoes and thought the same thing.
As far as the cats and the bird go, the three eldest (still counting Jasmine -- I can't help it) pretty much ignore the bird, and she would ignore them. We think they respect the beak. The "babies" however, harass her all the time. We think they're mostly just curious, and luckily there haven't been any major skirmishes (or injuries), but they do try. It's almost like they're trying to play with her. It has stopped her from free-roaming the house like she used to do before they came along.
I think it may have something to do with the fact that the older three were in the household first before the bird came in (even though she's actually the oldest of all of them at 16 years old -- she's been in my family her whole life, but only with us since 2001), whereas Salt and Pepper were our latest acquisition.
