Anybody used it? Is it worth the money? Will it dry out Twitch's skin? I have been buying a shampoo + condition, but I can't find it anymore. My bottle is almost gone. I have been looking at all of the whitening shampoos, but I don't know if they are good or not. What makes them whiten the fur? I think the big thing in not buying a bottle is: why would I want it for Lily? I don't need to whiten her!
I could use the dogs(it's for cats, too) shampoo(Oatmeal & Strawberries) for Lily if I got whiteneing shampoo for Twitch.

What kind of shampoo do you use?

I use baby wipes for quick clean up s... I use an organic dog shampoo ( the one u are using is good ) /// cats shouldnt use dog and cat shampoo I forget why... I use vets best hypo formula for the really dirty kitty ( only had to once), it has only four ingrdiants... SKIP the whitening they are almost always chemically laden as in bleach substitue..

IMO you could/should use Nexxus Simply Silver on both your cats. Its for silver/white hair and I owned several white rexes and bicolors. The shampoo works very well in brightening the white. On the other colors it puts a bright shine. I plan on using it on my black/white bicolor and know it will make everything shine.

Haven't found anything better.

Why and how often do you bathe your cat? I don't think it is necessary to bathe them regularly, only if they get really dirty.

Jen,

IMO white or mostly white cats benefit from a regular washing to keep the white coat white. If you let it go too long, it tends to start turning yellow from the saliva of grooming. My white rex when I was showing him got washed before every show (usually once or twice a month). After retirement I slacked off in washing him. Now at 15 yrs old his belly is pretty yellow and I don't think I'll be able to get it white again.

Many people remarked how clean, white, etc his coat was - their white cats were yellowish. He was pure white from the regular washing.

Are you familiar with laundery blueing? Whitener shampoos work much the same way in that a tiddly bit of blue makes white look more crisp. The theory of it is that it affects the spectrum of the light reflected off the coat to make it appear more white.
They are by no means magic and most folks won't be able to see any difference without continued use. And there are 100 different formulas- some beter than others in terms of skin safety and whether or not they are suitable for use on cats.

I'm hijacking here for a second. I have not been able to find laundry bluing in years here in Canada. Can you still buy it in the US?

I don't even know what laundry blueing is!

Goldenkitty, where do you get your Nexxus Simply Silver? I have never heard of it, but I think it's worth a try.

As far as the yellowing of a white cat's coat, Lola, the fex-eral I have, has been bathed repeatedly since I got her & her coat is still really yellow. I think she is well behaved enough & trusts in me so much that she can go to a groomer one of these days. I need her pretty so someone will want to give her a new home.

Kandie is 90% white and with age yellowed she is almost perfect snow white all I can attribute it to is switching to a nearly all raw diet..

Nexxus is sold in hair salons and is a little expensive but worth it. It was recommend for our rexes by a fellow rex breeder who is also a hair stylist and that's the best thing he's found for his rexes (he uses all of the Nexxus products on his cats - conditioner and the stuff you use for curly perms).
