Since I have never used this food I am would like to know if this is normal:

1) Does it usually have a strong odor? I mean, the entire room smells like the food!

2) Does it make the cats poop smell worse? B/c it is horrible when that kitten goes to the bathroom!

I checked the expiration on the bag and it is 1 year away from expiring.

I just don't think I am going to continue using this food. I have always heard that Iams, Science Diet and Max Nutro are the best, but I think I am going to knock Iams out of that category and give the others a shot.

3) Do any of you use the Multi Cat food? I think it is Science Diet. If so, will it truely be ok for a kitten, some young cats and an old cat?

Thanks!

I'ved fed my kittens with Iams kitten and it didn't smell at all and their poos were fine. How odd.... Unless the formula is slightly different in the US?

It also depends on the individual cat / kitten and on how they deal with the ingredients - obviously your kitten has problems digesting this food!!

From what I can see the second ingredient is Chicken By-Product Meal and it goes down hill from there with Corn Grits, Corn Meal.

A switch to a premium quality food such as Science Diet and Max Nutro should definately help!!

I would read the SD ..but Hell603 is on the right track...

I used max with great sucess ... if you have big smell issues I would look at califonia natural , natural choice and sensible choice

Our Iams kitty food doesn't smell very much. When she went to visit her cousins though, they were all eating multi-cat and did not seem to like it very much at all. Maybe you got a bad bag and should get a refund or something. I don't think Iams is a bad food, especially not when compared with some others in which the first ingredient is meat by-product meal, which is even more mysterious.

Sometimes a kitty will just not do well on one though. Try the others and see if they're better. Also, our kitty had a bit of poo problems when we first started feeding her wet food, so think if it could be anything else too, like treats or sneaking human food or something.

Hope kitty feels better soon!

Took the kitties to the vet this morning and he seems to think that it may be a bad bag of food. Even though it is not expired he said to throw it away and GAVE us a big bag of multicat!
