I started my 7 cats on canned about 3 weeks ago. All but 2 readily took to it. Smudge, my soulmate cat (I love calling her that!) will not touch it. I've tried all kinds of the healthier kinds, Nutro, etc, and was just about ro resort to a not so healthy kind, just to get her to eat it, and then switch her to all good stuff once she got used to it. After learning how much better canned is for them, especially like for their kidneys, and Smudge's older age (9 next month) I was starting to worry about her health more since she's been on dry all her life. I have been rationing the dry kibble they're still getting, less than what they were getting, so they're hungrier for the canned when it's time to eat. It was getting close to feeding time, and I'm sitting here on the computer and hear her licking the wet food plate...I freaked out and ran and got her some fresh canned food, which she readily ate!! I couldn't belive it! I was so happy, but then remembered she sometimes pukes if she eats the wrong thing. So, I am in a silly way, asking the board for "eat canned food and like it, and eat canned food and keep it down" thoughts to be sent to her and my other cat that won't eat it....
Kinda silly, but their health is at stake!
Thanks from Smudge and Cubby, and me!

I JUST typed out my long and involved process in another thread!

Leo, would actively, and I'm not making this up, run AWAY when I opened a can. Now, he waits expectantly for me to fed him. He also puked every time I got wet down into him, no matter how little. Now, he doesn;t. I think I just moved too fast those first few times.

The missing link in his story is freeze dried chicken. THAT'S what finally did the trick.

Step 1: feed freeze dried chicken pieces (broken up to kibble size) at meal times
Step 2: when the freeze dried chicken is being readily eaten, mix in a couple small pieces of really dry, baked skinless/boneless chicken breast
Step 3:Work up to no freeze dried, all baked chicken
Step 4: Progressively make the chicken moister and softer, until its real tender with a pink inside. BE CAREFUL HANDLING THIS.
Step 5: Put trace amounts of wet onto the chicken. Just enough so she can smell it.
Step 6: gradually, over teh course of 2 months for us, work your way up to wet from here.

It's involved, but Leo isn't afraid of wet food anymore and his tummy likes it. Maybe it could work?
