Hi my name is Maggie and my cats name is Fizgig. he is 2 years old and nuetered and front declawed. I have some concerns - 2 have already been answered by reading the general post but I would still like to touch on them.

Fizgig is a petite semi long haired(? hes not got LONG hair but its not short and hes very "fuzzy") male. He is VERY hyper. In fact I assumed he would be starting to calm down but some days are just crazy with him. He is literally bouncing off the walls.
Let me say first I LOVE HIM! and will NEVER get rid of him! lol but I would like some insight on some of his issues.

Like I said some answers I have had answered by the first couple posts. He peed on the floor when my roommate moved in but stoped when she stoped coming around but which was also the time I changed his litter (brand). The roommate is moving back in this weekend with a new kitty (female) but I will use the tips provided to help them adapt.

Fizgig is so very hyper tho that its obnoxious sometimes! We got him declawed in front the same time we got him nuetered which was as early as the vet would let us. I cant remember now but it was a little less than 2 yrs ago. I would have thought he would have calmed down a bit by now! no....not at all if anything he is more rambunxios! He is alot of fun and cuddly (sometimes) he plays fetch and fighting games with us. but sometimes he acts very hatefull when he plays. and I swear he lures house guests into thinking he is sweet just long enough to get close enough to bite viciously! I dont understand! I have a few BAD scars that I wont lose for a few years (at least!) caused by him AFTER he was declawed and neutered (this means MEAN! teeth bites) and I have to warn all guests as cute as he looks hes actually very mean and to please not touch him. Hes attacked guests as well for no reason at all!!

Next he likes to get on the backs of chairs and couches and stand on his hind legs and wail and bat at the air......does this mean I have ghosts or a crazy cat?
this is like bloody murder wailing and I cant for the life of me "understand" this!!

any thoughts on this?
I sure hope my cats not crazy cuz Im quite fond of him when hes behaving himself! lol
yahoo: mdlangs

Thanks
maggie

Unfortunately everything I've read on the subject of declawing has said that it's common for declawed cats to get very aggressive. They don't have their natural defense anymore, so they compensate by biting or scratching with their back claws.

Ahhh well that makes sense I guess. Hes not really into using the back claws as much as biting but yeah its bad

any thoughts on the crazy screaching behavior?

I might have to respectful disagree on the generalization that all cats that are declawed go crazy. I grew up with all declawed (front) cats and they were all normal, loving cats. I believe if the cat was declawed young then the behavioural issues aren't the problem. On the otherhand if you declaw the cat at an older age then i can see how there could be problems.

Sorry...just had to say my piece.

No need to apologize. Just wanted to reiterate that I didn't say ALL declaws become aggressive. I just said that I've read that it's a common occurrance. I personally could never have a cat declawed, so I don't know this from *personal* experience, but it did happen to a friend of mine who declawed her kitten at a very young age. Of course, every cat is different, I was just suggesting a possible cause for the problem.

Maggiespp, I have no idea about the screeching! My little cat Patches will sometimes stand on her hind legs and put her front legs on a chair or couch we're sitting in, meow loudly and "tap" us, as if to say "Hey! Pay attention to me! Here I am!"

i agree - Pixel & Mouse are/were both front declaws, & are/were never agressive to me. sometimes to the other cats, but when i've seen it, it's usually appropriate agression. my 1st cat, Medley, was agressive to others but not me - she was also declawed. i think my most agressive cat is Java, who isn't declawed at all.
but you can't do anything about that now, so i would look at other ways to help him. can you get him a stuffed toy to be agressive towards? that might help...
oh, & i don't think there's anything you can do about the screeching - Pixel does this very loud, obnoxious meow when she wants me to play with her...usually at 3am

ok then that helps to know I guess hes not crazy - it just seems like it cuz its the craziest thing I ever saw! I had a cat when I was a kid but she was sweet not declawed and never wailed but he also likes to bat my butt when Im sitting on chairs.
lol I think this smiley :
pretty much sums him up for the most part!
