I know, enough with the silly diet questions, sheesh! Alright my question is, am I hallucinating, or could my cats be more playful and alert since the change from all dry to mostly canned? I seem to hear a lot more play fighting going on, and more toy playing is going on too. I assume since they're eating less carbs now, that they're maybe not feeling carb-groggy?
What are your thoughts on this? Even Bob, in his 22 pound massive glory, was running around with a cat dancer today! I don't think I've ever seen him play!
Is there a connection?

When I recently had my cats on all canned I definitely noticed a difference in their activity, including my almost 19lb cat who usually spent the day snoozing on the bed. I don't think its your imagination at all. Unfortunately, financially, I had to go cut it down to 50/50 dry and canned, but hope to go back to all canned again in a few months when my busy season starts at work and I get ahead on a few bills. But at least the 50/50 is much better than the all dry I had them on previously!!

Well, it's a great side effect, and if I wasn't sold on canned food before, (I was) I am now!!!

Also if you still want to feed dry switching to a single protein and single carb dry food such as Natural Balance Venicen (sp?) and pea makes a hugh difference.

If you think about it, canned food is more in line with their natural prey instincts. Soft, squishy, mostly liquid- same consistency as a mouse, a lizard or a bird. Eating canned food only can wake that prey drive up fairly quickly. Dry food exists for the convienence of the owner, not for the cat. My crew gets mainly canned food with some dry. They also have 3 pet fountains so that they drink enough water to compensate. I always see them going for drinks after eating kibble, but never after eating canned.

I just got a mental image of Lily draggin bird guts across the carpet in the living room.

I have noticed that both kitties are much more playful now that they get mostly canned food, too. Watching them maul each other during the day makes up for the frequent disruptions of my evening's sleep.

I agree about the wet food. I feed my 2 kitties raw meat medallions 2x's a day and inbetween they have dry food out as well. They always seem to have their "energy spasms" soon after they've eaten their wet meals for the day. The funny thing is they'll come looking for their "wet" meals by hanging out in the kitchen and meowing. They enjoy them that much!

I'm really loving it, I SOOO wish I would have stumbled on the information on canned food sooner. I had major misconceptions about it, but now, I highly recommend it to anyone!!! My cats' coats are already shinier, they play more, they're more alert...I'm converting everyone I know to "go canned."

Edit, I was just cleaning the litterboxes and remembered another thing that seems better....the boxes aren't as stinky!!!

yes it's a huge difference!
when i switch nana onto wellness cans from science diet dry... after 1 week i saw her coat become shinnier and softer and have much less stinky ppoo.
at first i thought i'm hallucinating ..not until my bf says the exact same thing i could believe it really happens!

i once believe that dry is better for their teeths too,
but after i read some article online..saying that the dry food r so small, the cats don't chew on it...they jsut gulp it down. and actually since dry food contains so much carb (especially cheap ones), which could convert into sugar, it's actually bad for their teeths.

after reading that article, i watch nana eat dry food and nope she never chew..just bite and gulp it down. since then i know dry is no good!
so i go for mainly cans, only once in a while give her dry...as treats..cuz she likes it.

if you want them have good teeth and chew, go raw.
i gave nana some raw chicken once in a while (cut it in small chunks) and she just loves it! and u see her having a good time chewing it..it's really cute!
i'm doing my research and targeting to have her go completely raw soon
