Hello everyone, I'm new to the site and I have a question about one of my cat's behavior that's driving my fiance and I nuts!

Our big fat cat, Mrs. Cheese, is really only affectionate to us if we're in the bedroom, on the bed. We could sit on the couch all day long and she'll never jump up to sit with us, but if one of us gets a phonecall and takes the phone into the bedroom, she'll literally RUN to follow us and then purr like crazy and rub up against us, begging to be pet.

I saw the other thread about cats being annoying at night, and Mrs. Cheese is the same way! We usually close them out of the room at night because of it, and we just feel terrible about it! In the middle of the night she'll come up and purr against our faces and rub up against us, and she'll usually go to sleep on our pillow for a little while.

It's the same anytime we're in the bedroom laying on the bed-- after a shower, reading a book, ANY time... but she won't give us the time of day anywhere else in the house! (Unless we have food for her, haha.) It's been this way ever since we brought her into our house almost 5 years ago. We got her as an older kitten - 7 months old - could this be a result of something her previous owners did? It's just so bizarre!

I live in the No. Va area near DC.

Well, my Lexi does this. Only HER room is the bathroom, LOL! Anytime I'm in there! Or if she feels like "loving" she leads me to the upstairs bathroom - it seems it is "her" bathroom - the other 2 bathrooms are nothing special. No other place is "love" place. Just the bathroom - esp. when I get out of bath and am drying off, am changing or using toilet OR otherwise in bathroom!
She has to hop on my lap for loving
or on the bath mat (which she sucks like crazy). I can't figure it out!!!

Zakk is like this too! He gets all purry and very cutesy kitten like- but in the rest of the house he is in charge.

Haha, Chay gets really lovey in the bathroom too! He's not a lap kitty, but he sure does do a lot of head-butting and rubbing when I'm in the bathroom!

It's not really that unusual. When we are on the bed, or in bed, we are relaxed, we are either reading, or doing other relaxing type activities. Our scent is calm not excited, the air is still and the cats take full advantage of this and want to cuddle up close.

Mr. Campground Kitty Chappy now will jump up close to me on the bed. He will worm his way over to the side of my leg keeping his tummy and head on the mattress. He headbumps me and then squirms up and rests with his head across my lap. Knowing he was never touched by anyone until he arrived here, this worm manuever makes me smile

The title of this thread caught my attention and I just had to look.

This is exactly what my cat does too. Most of the time she does not enjoy being held or being on my lap, but when I'm in bed she snuggles right up. She'll sit on my lap while I'm reading, and when I turn out the lights, she settles herself on the pillow and wraps herself around my head and purrs. Generally she'll spend almost the entire night sleeping on the pillow.

I have no idea why she does this. She spent two years in a shelter before I adopted her, so maybe it's her way of feeling extra-secure and making up for all those lonely nights.

I think it is always a gift when our kitties choose to snuggle (on their terms, of course!) with their special person.

Hi - Do you have a leather sofa? I ask because at least one of our cats will not and never has jumped up on ours, only our laps for a few minutes to remind us it's suppertime. She's just not comfortable on it, but if we put a blanket over it, she'll lie down and be happy there.

Nope, no leather! It's just a futon with a sheet on it. She sleeps on it constantly when we're not home!
