My boyriend and I have been lucky enough to have two ferals become friendly enough to adopt us as parents. The oldest, Mouser, was neutered shortly after he adopted us 2 years ago. The second PD, took longer to become trusting and was older when he showed up, hence he's an older neuter than Mouser was. Mouser adjusted very well, but I'm worried about PD. He's never stayed all night in the house, so I'm guessing tonight might be a sleepless night for us.

Any ideas on what to expect from this shy little boy after such trama? I've not had a lot of experience with cats so I"m worried about keeping him happy and safe as he heals. I'm hoping that in a while he's going to stop spraying and getting into fights (which from the looks of it, he always loses!)

At the very least he shouldn't increase the neighborhood cat population. We think both he and Mouser were dumped at a barn down the street from our subdivision. New folks have moved in and there are at least 2-3 HUGE unneutered males roaming around. PD will be getting a collar & tag shortly, so at least it's known someone's responsible for him.

I think I'm just a very nervous cat lover who's worried about her furry one ~ thank you for bearing with me!

I ask my vet not to keep my strays and ferals overnight, and instead release them back to me. But, I have been in this game a long time and I know how to make them comfortable in a room to lessen their stress.

He should be fine with this once you get him home. Thank you for caring for him enough that you are getting him neutered. You just increased his life by a large measure!

Although he was probably very frightened by the surgery, he will recover quickly. I doubt it will slow down his taming at all. In fact, as his hormones go away over the next few weeks, his urges to fight and to mate will fade, too. Then he will quit being beaten up.

Please post an update on how it went for PD!

IF he is still allowed to roam he WILL continue to be beaten up by the TOMS! I had a Tom and a young male cat and even when neutered the young cat got beaten up by the Tom! They BOTH died of FIV complications.

BEST thing is to keep them INSIDE!
