I'm going out of town for a conference at the end of this week and will be gone from Thurs. until early Mon. morning. I'm dreading leaving the kitties. This happens every time I travel even if it's just for a few days. I just miss them like crazy and worry about them even though I know they're being taken care of. Just had to share that, because I know you guys understand!

What's worrying me so much this time is that it's the first time I've been away since I adopted Claire. She's been through so much and having lost her last owner, I don't want her to think that I've left her too.

Aww, it's perfectly understandable. After losing Sunni while we were gone last summer, I've decided that the cats go with us whenever we go away now. I just couldn't leave them here.

It's tough being away from the babies, isn't it? It's one reason we don't do a lot of travelling and what we DO do is short. We have a couple of trips coming up this year that will be longer -- four nights away in April, and
nine nights away in July -- having a hard time getting my head around those.

They'll be fine, Eileen...Claire at least will have her experienced kittie-buddies to assure her that Mum does come back, and to encourage her to give Mum a hard time when she gets home, in the hope that Mum will learn the error of her ways.
A cat can only try!

I'm exactly the same! I went away this weekend, and worried that they were ok. Came home to find them desparate to cuddle and my house a disaster! I think they had fun while mom was away!!

The cats house, we just pay the mortgage..
I know how you feel! Mark and I are travelling to my Dads in 2 weeks to celebrate his 50th birthday and Marks mum is having the cats. They have to stay in the 'top room' which is a huge attic conversion because Marks dad is allergic, and they have been there before and are comfortable there but what are they going to do at night time when they can't cuddle in with us? Its really heartbreaking!

Well guys, I appreciate the support, but I'm still hopeless. I just turned down a dinner invitation with the excuse that I have too much to do to get ready to go, but it's really because I want to have the time with the kitties.

Awww...Eileen, I understand exactly what you're going through.
I just HATE leaving my boys, even when it's just me going out of town and I know DH will be home with them. I just got back yesterday after a whole week, and I missed them SO bad. I wouldn't make any plans for early this week just so I could be there with them. (So, we can be hopeless together!
)
