hello everybody!!! thank you all for such great advice on my wild little kittens. Kramer (the oldest, boy... about 5 months old) is crazy! Penny (girl, probably 2 1/2 months) is coming around wonderfully!!! she is coming out regularly and only runs back to her safe place whenever she is frightened by a sudden movement or loud noise. it's great! They are both eating and drinking very well and are using the litter box nicely!

one problem i have encountered is that the furballs have FLEAS!!!

FLEAS!!! ahhh!!! lol. this is not good. i feel so bad for penny especially because she's SO SMALL and she's always itching herself! she must be so STRESSED!!! i looked at her belly and they are just SWARMING!!! i cant make a vet appt. until monday but i plan on doing that asap to get kramer neutered... i'm doing him first b/c he's bigger and older. so i suppose i will have to make an appt. for her fleas...

any suggestions in the meantime?

I DID MAKE WHAT I BELIEVE TO BE A BIG MISTAKE!!! i put HARTZ 2 in 1 flea and tick spray on them! after researching this product on the net i learned that many of the hartz brand products are deadly and i read stories from people who said their pet's died from using this same spray!!! i put some on kramer's belly and back last night because i could see fleas on him after i gave him a bath (i hadn't seen any in the bath water!) and today when i saw how many were on penny i gave in and rubbed some on her belly... i noticed that she isn't itching as much but they BOTH HAVE COLDS OR SOMETHING...

their eyes are watery and they both have one of their eye's closed... not all the time, but it's like they're winking at me... lol! they sneeze often too! so now i'm scared they may be having reactions!!!

I would try and wash the Hartz off of them quickly. If these symptoms just started after you put the Hartz product on them.

You can make an appointment for both of them to get spayed and neutered at the same time, then they can recover together and you don't have to worry about how one reacts when the other returns from the vet. All the new smells, and you will have to go through that twice. Sometimes they temporarily forget each other for a little bit.

Plus she is old enough, they can be fixed at 8 weeks and she is what? 2.5 months old you said? Might as well kill two birds with one stone.

if they are reacting, it doesnt seem to be too strong of a reaction.. yet. but if either of them start salivating (it will be very obvious) then please get them to an emergency vet right away. I know that to be a sign of toxicity in this situation.. I have a friend who lost a kitten this way.

Give them a bath in Dawn dishwashing lotion and warm water to cut the poison off their body. Dry them off with towels that have been cycling in the dryer. Do the bath NOW

If you can afford it I would deffinatly get them s/n together. If you do it seperately one will want to play while the other is recooperating, and it can be hard to keep them from playing. If not then it is a good idea to get at least one done, like you're already doing

Giving them a bath will not kill fleas because fleas can swim. Buy a flea comb (which can be found at Walmart or Stop & Shop for around a dollar). Comb the kitties with the flea comb, and after each stroke rinse the comb in scalding hot water. If the water doesn't kill the fleas that are stuck in the comb it will at least incapacitate them so they can be washed down the drain. Let the hot water continue to run so the fleas that are down the drain don't get a chance to hop out. This won't eliminate all the fleas on your cats, but at least there will be fewer fleas and less itching while the kitties wait for the vet. Remember the running water has to be as hot as possible or the fleas won't be affected by it.
