My kitten was watching me get ready for class today and I was changing my contacts and set the old ones down on the sink and she ATE one of them!!! She ate a soft contact lens
! And swallowed it! I ran to the phone of course and called the animal hospital. The receptionist, after she stopped laughing, went to ask one of the dvm's and then assured me that she could puke but will almost certainly be fine. I can't believe it! Will they eat anything?

Sorry, but I am cracking up.

I'm glad it was not dangerous.

hahaha. I used to have a cat who would drink my contact solution if I didn't throw it out right away!

She also ate broccoli.

Wow, that is very weird. I'm glad your kitty is ok!! My cats have never really eaten anything odd, but I have heard of cats eating the strangest things....

I had a dog eat my contact lens a few years ago - I dropped it while putting it in, and he must have thought it was a treat. There were no adverse effects.

Well, her tummy was grumbling loudly last night, but other than that she is unscathed by her contact-lens eating experience.
I wonder how it tasted too? She was about to eat the other one when I caught her, so it must've been good.
Ewww!

I know that my kitty will eat anything. Nothing is safe around her.

So glad your little one is okay.

Oh yes kittens will eat just about anything. They are like toddlers. I'd love to say they all grow out of it, but I can't. My adult cats still eat paper & wierd things they find aroud the house. Once when Isaac was little he ate a rubber band. Luckily he had chewed it up into small enough pieces that it passed. He was constipated for a couple days, but he's fine now. I would guess that something like a soft contact lense would not stand up well to a stomache acid & even if it did it's small & flexible enough to pass.

Dori has an obsession with my contacts... Well not so much the contacts but the saline solution. It started when she was a kitten, but every night when I take my contacts out or when I put them on, I have to keep her from drinking the solution from the plastic contact container. It's very strange, but I always assumed it was slightly salty taste she wanted.
