I don't frequent this site often, but everytime I do, everyone makes me feel better. My 17 yr old cat, Max passed away last night. I came home from work and he could hardly breath. Raced him to the vet, they put him on oxygen and said he had fluid in his lungs from kidney failure. Max was fine the night befoe and the morning of. It was so strange how it came on durin the day while I was at work; such a drastic change. Does kidney failure cause fluid in the lungs? Max was my companion, my sleeping buddy, and best friend. I don't know what I'm going to do without my boy. Thanks to all for your support.

I am so sorry for your loss. Cats are so good at hiding their pain and discomfort...but now Max is at peace and you it sounds like he had a wonderful, long life.

I live in the No. Va area near DC.
I'm so sorry to hear of it! Yes, cats can down hill VERY suddenly. OTH
sometimes quick intervention can rescue them. But at that age, it
was probably his time to go. My Diablo is 15 and my Shebs 16.
I can hardly think of life without them, but know it will happen oneday.

I will be devestated. As I am sure you are. My prayers and thoughts
and hugs. Remember the good life you gave Max, and know that
he didn't suffer. And oneday, maybe some new cat will come along
to love you....

What a shock for you. Yes, it can happen very quickly -- they are so good at masking their discomfort/symptoms. But he had a good long well-loved life, and is at rest now. Be gentle with yourself.

RIP MAX

I'm so very sorry to hear of Max's passing .And Yes Kidney failure can cause fluid to build up in the lungs. It can and does happen that quickly. If the Kidneys are not able to work and pass urine fluid builds up in the body. In the Lungs around the heart ect.

Kidney failure does cause fluid in the lungs - years ago I had a 16 year old cat go like that, quite suddenly. We were managing her diet and she seemed OK for a couple of years, and then one day I found her lying panting on the kitchen floor. I rushed her to an emergency vet who drew masses of fluid from her lungs. But we decided it was best for her to go as it would have recurred sooner rather than later. I am so sorry for your loss, Max lived to a good age under your care and love.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is very hard when it happens so suddenly. We lost our 12 yr. old cat, Max, a black and white tuxedo, in July of last yr. His symptoms of kidney problems came on Thursday and he was gone by Monday. The fluids and meds. didn't help him. Maybe our two Max's are happily playing together over the Rainbow Bridge. The main thing you need to do is try to heal in your spirit. You provided Max with much happiness and you did all you could do to help him.
Rest in peace dear Max. You were blessed to have someone who loved you so much
