My little Ruby (and Chester, too) were attacked by ANOTHER Jack Russell at the park today - the dog growled, snarled and snapped at them both (while the owner looked on and did nothing, by the way). I am being completely honest when I say that all Ruby and Chester did was run up to it for a sniff - the other dog owners at the park said it is a vicious little thing and have had problems with it with their own dogs.

Anyway, Ruby was running around as usual and when she went past I noticed she was bleeding quite badly from the eye. We packed them up and took her to the vet and the little
had bitten her right in the eye and split her eyelid open in two places :eek:nfire.

She is on antibiotic eyedrops four times a day, and you should see how swollen and sore it looks. She's still in good spirits but the vet said she wouldn't be surprised if it spooked her and made her a little inter-dog aggressive. I don't think so because she seems completely happy except she keeps pawing at her eye, but I am so upset and angry!! Poor little girl I am SO going to say something to that Jack Russell's owner the next time I see him

Poor Ruby! i would tell that owner to either make sure he is muzzled or dont bring him and give him the vet bill. Also tell him that other owners have had problems with them too. I hope Ruby heals quickly!

My thoughts exactly! I know most dog parks are "use at your own risk", but is there a manager of the park that you could report this to? Its bad enough that poor Ruby got hurt, what if this dog does this to others?

I would report the incident to the police so that you have record of it if anything further were to happen. I think the owner should have to pay your vet bills, they were present with their dog when it happened so they cannot deny it, and if possible get some statements from any witnesses to back you up. I am very sorry you and Ruby have to go through this, I hope she heals up fine. I would also recommend some sort of dog-repellant spray to avoid future unwanted confrontations. I always carry pepper spray with me, I don't know how it affects dogs though, and I hope I don't have to use it, but its better safe than sorry.

There's also a product available at some pet stores & auto supply stores called "Halt!" that is supposed to stop most dogs but not be as harmful to them as pepper spray.

I hope your little girl heals up well. It would be nice if that dog owner would help with the vet bills. At the very least perhaps you could get the names & contact info of other people who've said they had trouble with that dog too - then you might be able to complain about him as a group, and get him banned from the park.

Next time you go to the park, be careful to check out the dogs in the park and see how they're acting before you take your dogs in. Our city's only dog park is a 25-mile drive from my house, but even so I've turned around and gone home a few times without letting my dogs out because of the way some of the dogs in the park were behaving.

Poor Ruby. This isn't the first you've had trouble with aggressive little dogs. Hope she heals up well.

Awwww, Poor Ruby!

My question is, if the owner knew the dog was aggressive, then why wasn't it muzzled?

Apollo was attacked by a german shpeherd back in the summertime.. I was walking around a big tree and the dog came from nowhere and was ontop of APollo in seconds.. I yelled at the dog and was about to go start kicking it (may sound cruel, but who knows what sort of damage was being done there) but before I got to the dog, the owner called the GSD over to him, and he apologized and told me to take him home and check him over. Then he offered to pay for any vet fees that may be needed. Luckily all He had was a few scrapes. But now because of thet, whever he seess a german shepherd, he goes nutso and tries to get it before it can get him. =\\
