Lately mum seems to be annoyed at Gordito, even threatening him; though I know she wouldn't hurt him. But I love him to bits, and I give him extra lovings to make up for what he loses with everyone else (no one seems to like him now that I think about it
)
Last night I was smothering Gordito in kisses when mum came into the room and told me I should just marry him and get it over with.
So I got 'serious' and told her to call the pastor of her church, and that Poptart was going to be the Maid of Honor (yes, I know he's a boy, but he's got a girly meow; and thats good enough for me
)
The looks she gave me...

I don't know why she dispises him so, she loves all the other cats and alwasy baby tlaks them when they come into the room, but when Gordybabe comes in she staresa t him and calls him different names, some I can't mention on here.

Anyone in your family dislike one of your furbabies?

That's too bad about your mom not liking Gordito. I've never really had that expeirence with family...but you know what it probably is...you have a special bond with Gorditio that she doesn't and maybe she's a bit jealous about how much he fusses over you.

My 1st ex husband couldnt stand my baby Oreo (RB now). He would get SO jealous of her sleeping w/me and only coming when I called her, only letting me pick her up etc. Well one day he was so upset that I didnt want to move her off "her spot" on the couch he threatened to get rid of her. From that day on, she peed in his breifcase EVERYDAY! I told him, "well keep your briefcase closed" so he did. She then started getting in the bottom drawer of his desk and peeing on his paperwork in there!. I finally told him "Serves you right for wanting to get rid of her!"
GOOD JOB OREO!

That's pretty cute!!, I'm convinced that cats can tell when someone dislikes them and some cats are smart enough to hold a grudge. My Uncle's RB kitty Ashley used to hate my cousin's boyfriend..he would always tease her (pull her tail and stuff) so one day Ashley sniffed out his shoe and took a poo in it.

My family are more dog people that cat people. I was going to get a dog, until I met Luna and she just pathetically fell at my feet and dragged herself on the ground, watching me, until I picked her up.

But yea, the only times they've seen her is when they help me move. If I want them to see her, I have to bring Luna to their house (which I'm NOT doing because of the 30 minute car ride of CRYING).

I hate to admit it, but dh doesn't really like Festus. She has a very whiney meow, and will slip into our bedroom, then cry to be let out right away. She jumps onto furniture and will knock things off. She burrows in the clean laundry, even after I fold it! She has a rather round figure, so is not as attractive as she could be. And she doesn't care for him, and never seeks him out for affection.

He doesn't say much, but I know he just doesn't like her. He actually likes Sugartoes a LOT more than Festie. And he isn't thrilled with the idea of giving away the friendly black kitten and keeping the shy one...but he totally supports my fostering kitties. When I went away last weekend for 3 days, he cared for everyone, including the litter of five kittens.

I think with 5 people in the house, and 11 cats, we all have the luxury of having our favorites. As long as SOMEONE loves each kitty, I think it is ok.

According to my husband... the zoo
None of my husbands family likes animals AT ALL. When my mother-in-law comes over here, the first thing my animals do is flock to her and try to sit on her lap. I feel bad because she usually just shoves them off, unless I can rescue them first. I hate when we get talking about animals (mine specifically) when we are all together, I really feel ganged up on. One of my sister-in-laws just HATES cats with a passion - but she doesn't ever come over here, so I don't have to worry much about her.

My husband doesn't really like animals that much, but he knows how much they mean to me and he's softened quite a bit over the years. He wouldn't go out of the way to pet one, but he doesn't mind when they sleep on his lap etc. Boogs is so funny - she loves to sleep leaning on his feet, and she will start out biting and grooming his feet and he will even tolerate that. Every time we (I) add an animal to our family - he just rolls his eyes. He calls it "The Zoo". I think if I told him about all of the animals some of you had, he'd be thankful we just have 3 cats and one dog.

I think my mum has a similar problem too Leto86, except a little different as she seems to love Heidy & Sable, most likely because they are female and her own cat is female, but she doesnt seem to care much for the boys - Monty & Ozkar.

In fact I can actually prove my mum doesnt like Monty - She came to visit last week with her Jack Russel terrier, which I am sure everybody knows, are very dangerous to cats. Everything was going well, Jack was behaving himself, until one night when the cats came to be fed, he ATTACKED Monty, and was TEACHING my dog to do it too. I was very angry and went to my mum and told her what happened, although I am sure she heard the racket - and instead of apologising for what happened, she starts sticking up for the dog!. And when I suggest tying the dog up outside (because it is mostly a house dog) for the night to show him that it did the wrong thing, even thought there is a huge comfy outdoor lounge out there, and water and food was very closeby- she got angry at me and said I was being cruel and that I told her to beat her dog??!!.
I was so angry after that, and I left. I don't think I could ever forgive her for that.

I have everyone over for Christmas dinner at my house. I mean, everyone. Aunts, uncles, cousins, cousins' kids, my sister & her four kids & her hubs. Even the neighbors stopped in this year for drinks.

So I had 20+ people in my house. Cat people; dog people; pet people.

The gals are chatting in the kitchen while I am carving the ham; my sister walks in & sees that Snickers is on his cushion --- it's his place, he practically lives there cuz, he's going on 15 and he's not exactly in the best health, just wants to be on everyone's lap & around the center of attention --- and she picks him up roughly and PLOPS him on the FLOOR. The WOOD floor!!! With a THUD!!! I about died!!!

I was standing there with a knife in my hand, and I said, dang it sis, be gentle with him, he's not like your 80 pound Boxers!!! Lost my temper...

She said, "well I just don't like cats, don't like touching them..."

And my aunt had recently commented on how Snickers "looks just like one of those fluffy scarves" he's so soft. And not to mention he's as gentle & sweet as can be. But sis, just doesn't like CATS.

My sis and I of course grew up in the same house, but she went one way (4 kids, married, 3 Boxers who live outside) and I went the other way (one kid, single & free, 6 indoor-only cats).

I sent her a really nasty email just after Christmas telling her she needs to be respectful of my cats when she visits, her kids were angels with my furbabies but sis? Just threw my oldest & dearest kit to the floor. It hurt my feelings!

"just don't like cats".... UGH

My family aren't much of cat people either - we always grew up having dogs, so Harley is the first cat in the family. Since we live about 2 hours away, my family doesn't come here too often to visit. My mom was here one weekend with my Aunt & Harley had to go and stay @ the neighbors b/c my Aunt is allergic to cats. My mom did get to see him one day when they were here - my neighbor brought him over, and she got to hold him and everything and she just loved him!
I was so happy

She is coming to stay with me this weekend, so she will get to see Harley in action - haha

My hubbys Mom does not care for cats...or the fact that we (esp "her son") baby`s them. She thinks that it is not "manly" for a man to like cats.
When she is here she gives them dirty looks......and I watch her every second (and she KNOWS I`m watching her...I make no attempt to hide it)....I do not trust her not to try to smack them or something. I get the cats away if they start to go near her....(I think she thinks it`s more cause I know she does`nt like them)...but the truth of the matter is THERE WOULD REALLY BE WAR IN THE CAMP IF SHE EVER LAID A HAND ON THEM....even my Hubby would give her a piece of his mind.....and she`s an old woman...so we try to keep the peace....but Larry would be really angry if she did something to one of them !!!!
GRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My family likes my pets, they just don't really think about them the way I do. One aunt is allergic, so she doesn't have any animals, my grandma finds them a bother, my uncle would have to pay $300 deposit to have one, which he can't afford though he'd like to have a cat, and my dad has told me I'd find more boyfriends if I got rid of some cats.....hmmmm....
I have one aunt that does like animals. Not too many in my family. My mom tried hard to remember all their names!

my aunty says she likes animals in general but when she gets sick of one she gets it put down, she has had the same siamese cat for years though and loves it to peices, it's funny because the more she talks to me the more she loves her pets, maybe she's learning something....fingers crossed.

my mum is neutral, she has two cats but they are both outdoor cats, the oldest one, a female cat called whiskers used to be mine but i left her with mum and she's mums cat now, mum does care for her but that's where it ends, she never buys her toys, takes her to the vet for check ups or plays with her, it annoys me mostly because whiskers is 16 now and really should be indoors all the time, she's already been hit by a car once because she fell asleep under it
i'm taking her for a check up myself when i move back, i just wish mum would let me take her..i buy her toys, pawbreakers and am getting her a bed so at least she has something, when mum first saw her play she's like 'wow, she actually plays' and i'm thinking well you kind of need to put a little more effort in mum.

my grandparents, aunt and a few others think it's so odd to keep a cat inside, my aunt thinks it's cruel and my nan doesn't understand it, the funny thing is in one sentance she will say 'i'm so sick of cats eating the birds, their owners need to do something!' then 'why do you keep your cats in? that's so cruel, they need to be outside chasing things and having fun' er...make up your d**n mind woman!
i actually got a call while i was replying to this thread from mum and she said nans still going on about me keeping my cats inside...

no-one has been mean to any of my furbabies....if they did they would not be getting invited back anytime soon, yes my cats aren't people but they love me, are always there for me and are always my friends no matter what and i love them all to peices, if someone else can't understand that then that's their problem, when people visit my house they are to be nice to everyone, including bonnie, pandy and anassa because it's their home too and they have a right to be treated decently by visitors, especially because for me, they are family too.

my husbands family don't hate animals but that's all cats are to them, animals, my husband has two sisters and a brother and only one sister has a dog, she's good to it but it isn't allowed indoors, gets a choker collar
and isn't played with a lot, if people want pets they need to remember that they need attaention and love too, i can't stand people who have this dumb idea that dogs or cats are dirty and shouldn't be allowed inside...if that's how you think you shouldn't really have one.

as for someone kicking my cat off her favorite spot....just try it

okay rant over lol, this subject always gets to me

My grandparents don't like any of the animals.. she thinks the cats should be outdoors with no litterbox inside (her cats were all like that).. she Likes Apollo, but only because he'll eat anyone who breaks in, and is the cheapest and best alarm around here

Glad to know I'm not the only one.. though i wish family and friends would at least get along with them =\\

I'm sorry, I found that really funny.

I don't date guys who don't like cats. On a first date I will ask casually if they like animals. If they say that they only like specific animals and cats aren't one of them, there is no second date.

i agree, i know a few people who have no cats in their house at all, as far as i'm concerned, it isn't a home because cats make a house friendly, fun and make it a true home.

i can't even imagine what it would be like to come home to a house without cats, it would feel so lonely and empty.

my sister in laws husband doesn't like cats anyway and talks horrible about them so i'm glad they don't have a cat, i don't know how many times iv'e had to tell my husband to get him to change the subject, they know how much i love cats yet the insist on talking about them in a way i find highly offensive. i can't say anything nasty or i'd be in trouble but God loves cats too, He never made them so people could hurt them, as people, we should look after cats and love them, that's what God would want......amazing how some people think that they can be great people but then when it comes to animals just treat them like dirt. it hurts more because they are Christian and should know better.

it just gets on my nerves and i can't really talk about it so i vent here instead, thanks for listening

Well, my parunts like animals in piriod, though there more of dog people. I love animals, but dogs sometime's get on my nurves. My grandparunts don't really like cats...and my grandpa jsut dose NOT seem to like Charlie, why I have no idea. He balme's him constandly for the 'flea appademic', which is over now that we've moved. None of my family has ever insalted out cats, thank goodness, but still, if they did, I'd probubly chew them out...I egt that from my mom, heh.
