Hi my kitten-simba- (now 5 mth) has just used the litter tray so i went to remove his poop and i noticed there was dripping blood on the side of the tray and also other bits of blood near his poop but i couldnt see any in it, ive checked him out and its odviously come out of his bum as hes all right everywhere else and he is playing normall.
Is this anything to be worried about?
we are booked in the vets for his pre-neutering check up on friday so hes going to be checked out then anyway.

thanks

I'd agree, especially if it's dripping like you say

Is the kitten on any worming products?!, because when i first got Sophie she was given a strong wormer from the vet which made her stools runny along with bits of blood in but this was normal for the first few days.

could be anything, but should be checked out promptly especially in a young kitten.

hi thanks for your replies, he isnt on any worming products as hes indoor kitty up to now.

I did ring the vets for advice and they said perhaps its something what hes eaten that has upset him and it probebly was in his poop but as it was covered over i only saw the other parts , they said to check his stool tomorow and if its the same bring him in straight away but as long as hes seem well and active we can wait until friday........so ill keep a close eye on him, hes eating & drinking fine, so perhaps he picked a bit of food up off the floor before i had chance to clean up,ill report back when i know more.

You know this happened once with me with Meeka. It only happened once and I took a stool sample in to be tested. Everything was normal and I never saw it happen again. So it may not necessarily be bad but its always good to play it safe. Its definitely a concern if it continues.

We lost a sweet little kitten last year from internal bleeding. I didn't realize what was happening till it was to late. I knew something was wrong with him because his litter box had a real strange smell and he ate all the time. One night he was playing and all of a sudden he collapsed and old bad smelling blood came from his mouth. We rushed him to a animal hospital but he was unresponsive. They tried a couple things with him and we waited for almost 2 hrs to see if he improved but the little guy never did so they had to end his short little life. I cried my eyes out for him and brung him back home and burried him next to his little brother who died shortly after he was born.

So my advice is get him looked at as soon as possible if you haven't already.

Does the blood look fresh or is it old dark stuff with a really bad smell? That is when we figured out what that bad smell was in the kittens litter, after he collapsed the blood that came from his mouth had that same horrible smell and was a very dark red color. Yvonne is a RN and said that is old blood from maybe stomach or intestinal bleeding. She felt bad to that she didn't put all the signs togther before he collapsed. I don't know if anything could have been done for the little guy if we had figured it out sooner but we sure would have tried to help him if we only knew what was going on.

Definately have your kitty checked out. Blood is always scary to me. The one time we found drippy blood in the litter box, it turned out to be round worms. I absolutely hate worms of any kind, but I was relieved that it wasn't something more serious.

We had the kittens here raising them because the mom stopped taking care of them. Rusty has never really liked me so to me he is just here, not really my pet. But then along came Tuffy who is what I wanted Rusty to be.
