I knew this was coming. I remember hearing all the "authorities" saying at the time that there was no risk, and being in a state of shock over it. These brave people are in my prayers.

I don't understand how these "authorities" could say there was no risk. There was asbestos and all sorts of pulverized debris floating around for days. The lungs are way too delicate for these materials to be inhaled. Again, we seem to fail those who bravely go to help others.

This is really no big surprise.
You could see this was going to happen by watching the footage from after the towers fell.

This expresses it quite well, I think.

My husband isn't even allowed to bring his bunker gear home with him because the chief says the smoke and chemicals from a fire stick to the gear and can affect one's family. It seems more than obvious that these rescuers were exposed to some horrible stuff and that it will have a direct effect on their health. There are several men who worked on a different shift from my grandfather who fought a fire about 30 years ago, they have all died from the same type of lung disease- directly related to the fire they fought all those years ago. It is amazing the stuff our firefighers, emts, and police officers are exposed to on a daily basis and how much risk they are in to serve and protect us.

My sister works for the EPA as an air quality scientist. She said that all of reports discussing examining air quality were re-written by the gov't so that it would look like the air was safe even though the data said the exact opposite.

This doesn't surprise me with this administration.
