Okay.. I've been thinking about this a lot for the last few days... If I take this apartment in the city I'll be able to get Malakai from jersey and bring him home with me... but I'm a little nervous about how he's going to react... I dont know if he's gonna remember me... and if he does... I doubt he'll be the same way he was before I left him... he's grown up a lot since the last time I saw him and he's gotten used to having a house full of animals...

what do you guys think I should do to maybe soften the transition or how should I act towards him if he's angry and distant with me? I'm scared that he's gonna hate me... or resent me for leaving him... or even for taking him away from the place he's been living... what do you guys think?

If you can accept that he isn't the same cat as when you first knew him, I think you can start over with him. Introduce him to your apartment by limiting him to one room for awhile. Take it slow and expect some distance. You will need to rebuild your relationship with Malakai. I believe that cats can adapt as long as you allow them to just be.

Liza, I am so happy for you!
I know you've missed Malakai terribly and this will mean the world to you.
He'll definitely remember you, though you're very thoughtful for thinking about how this transition will be for him. Try the Feliway Comfort Zone Diffuser. It is very useful in de-stressing cats during times of transition and hopefully it'll be just as helpful on Malakai.
Congrats chick

It will take him time to adjust..there is no doubt about that, but I'm sure he will remember you. Cats have very good memories!. Just let him explore and warm up to you at his own pace.

Start leaving some of you clothes with his scent so he can remember it.
Is he a easy going cat??? I don't see my sisters cats much but they always seem to remember me.
