What is ideal texture for an RB?? What/how is it supposed to feel like? What about thickness and length of fur?

RB's have a short but thick/dense coat. Its not close laying like most other breeds - it has a density to it. In the ideal russian coat you should be able to run your fingers thru it backwards and the lines stay there.

Also RB's have the beautiful silver tipping on the blue and the gorgeous green eyes.

Korats also have silver tipping, but their coat is short/close laying.

Definitely a much more precise description than mine.

My original purebred cat was a Russian blue. My HHP was a gorgeous big blue tabby (with silver tipping) and big green eyes - so I wanted something like him.

My RB had one litter and I kept the best male, Cassanova to show - he was a ham and a real love bug. He did make Grand Champion and one of the consistant comments from the judges was how outstanding his coat was - they had not seen a decent RB coat for awhile. They also loved his temperment too.

At the time I also had a rex alter and for awhile they would compete with each other. I was semi-campaigning the rex and the RB started beating him in the ring. So I pulled the RB so the rex could get the wins. They traveled together at the show and would be very upset if they had to go alone.

Sadly, the RB died of cancer at a young age. He had a coat loss problem and was put on Ovaban which brought the coat back in, but found out later that Ovaban did trigger cancer (this was many years later).

I have not seen a RB with a coat like him in a long time. BTW he was about 3-4 generations from Tsar Blu's Zane Grey! Looked exactly like him

I'm sorry to hear about your baby.
That must have been hard. Have you thought about getting another RB?

My guys are descendents of a number of Tsar Blu cats as well. Zorian Grey is one that goes back 4 generations. They both come from very good blood lines and have exquisite eye colour -- a deep emerald green.

I showed my older cat Mik until he received both his Championship and Premiership, and was considering breeding RB's at one point, but I live alone and even with a small cattery, it can be quite difficult and can get expensive.

I really love the breed, and adore their special and sensitive personalities.

I'm not sure. If I could find the "old" style with the coats like I had, I may consider a pet one - not show. They just don't like showing (very few). For now, if I want to show, I'll show Ling Ling in HHP and see what she does. My rex (not the one that was with Cassie (rb)) is 15 yrs old and when its his time, will only have the one cat and one dog.

Hubby and I plan on traveling and you can't have a lot of pets to babysit

Cassie's mom's name was Kisa which means "pussycat" in Russian

This is in our standard for the Russians coat

The Russian has a unique double coat which is thick but very fine, standing up soft and silky like seal-skin
