I've been at work all day today - since 7AM, and we have had NO HEAT at all today. So, I call them today at about 8AM when my manager gets here, and we talk to the owner to see what we should do. So we call the Heating place - estimated time: 8:30AM. I tell the people there that we have NO heat and its freezing in here and we need someone to come out immediately in case the motor is broken.

I call them again at 11:30AM, they tell me: yup, someone will be there shortly-I again tell them that its very very urgent- I have customers that sit in my office all day and they have been complaining like CRAZY thats so cold in here.

3:30PM rolls around - they finally show up, while I'm freezing my butt off and my little space heater is not doing any justice. The man goes upstairs, and tells us that yes indeed, the motor is broken.
(Really?! I wonder who told you that earlier!?)

So then - here's the kicker: The man tells us - well now that its after 3:30PM, we have to charge you our overtime rate becuase its after 3:30 and we are done working at this time.

.....WHAT?!....okay, who's fault is that it someone didnt get here sooner when I called saying it was an emergency? Now WE have to pay overtime for the guys to fix a problem we called 8 hours ago for!

So they went to get us a new motor and they are going to fix it....for $90+ an hour, plus parts. I'm not happy!!

Sorry for the rant, I just had to tell someone, cuz I already vented @ my boss - who feels the same way!

I would definitely be calling a supervisor and filing a complaint about that!

I'm at home now - and the Heating Co. is closed - but I am calling there in the AM and telling them about that! Why should our compnay have to pay for their lateness!?

I would definitely complain... ask them how they would feel if you told them their car would be ready at 10 and then they turned up and you told them to wait 7 more hours! Also i would ask to have the over time refunded because they should have been there in enough time to finish the work well before 3.30

I have the opposite problem, the other girl in the office has the heat on at 110 and I have to go outside just to breath

Yup, definitely call and complain. They sound like they're purposely ripping you off.

I mean, I understand that you guys probably weren't the only ones without heat, but still, they should've either gotten their butts their earlier or not come at all.

EXACTLY - Thank you guys for understanding! When the tech showed up and told us that, I was SO mad!!

They really should not have charged us time and a 1/2 just cuz THEY didn't get there on time! Isn't that illegal, or something?!

Its broken here too... at close to 100F... I have the window open letting in the cold so I can keep myself from passing out from it being so hot and stuffy.

They are telling me 2pm... wanna take bets on when they will show?

Sounds like they don't have enough staffing. Even though you don't have to pay for it yourself its ridiculous that they took so long to respond. Your boss should have gotten involved too-like bringing in another space heater or more how are you supposed to work in those conditions???

Thats what I thought too - but he said he was comfortable all day, while I was freezing!!

I still think its horrible that our compnay has to pay for that overtime like that - they were the ones who were late!

Our company charges overtime for evening (after 4pm) jobs but certainly not if its our fault we are late, and we also call the customer and explain that we will be late if its more than an hour late.

I got lucky - they are here early - but I nearly missed them because I was at lunch!
