Wow.
You know, sometimes I get a little annoyed that I can't totally go after someone who I feel has said something completely ignorant w/out the mods stepping in. But it makes this a nicer place.
Over at a horse BBoard that I read and once-in-a-blue-moon post on, I posted a simple question about feeding corn to my horse (my dad's idea, not mine). I figured there would be a lot of people there with LOTS of experience keeping horses who would know the benefits and draw-backs, and it would be quicker and more concise than wading through pages and pages of an internet search.
Boy did they ever know...an all-out argument broke out! Everyone knew everything, and thought everyone else was wrong! I got jumped on, the people who answered me got jumped on, the people who commented on what the people who answered me said got jumped on, it was a mess!!
There were about 5 civil, decent, informative answers in the whole 3 page thread.

I should have just asked Hissy and Scamper and the other horse-y TCSers!!! LOL

(BTW...my horse isn't getting corn. She's done fine on her current feed regimine for 19 years and I don't see any reason to change it.)

One thing that I have learned about horse boards, is that there are a lot of people who claim they "know everything." They insist they have 5 horses, are with them "all the time" training them from scratch...training others, yet they never seem to get off the computer.

I have two horses, my first horse was 3 months old when he arrived and everyone (way back then) was gasping and horrified that a greenhorn would try to attempt to raise a "baby!" Well, he has turned out to be a wonderful horse. I learned and am still learning about horses, and one thing I have learned, the most important thing, is the best teacher is YOUR horse.

If you are in a feeding program that is working, then don't switch it up, unless you are changing the discipline of your horse and going to something like barrel racing or gymkhana and he needs to have the added energy. I feed mine hay and oats. That is all they get now. When I first got them, I put them on Red cell, Strategy, Fastrack, barley, rice bran- you name it, I probably tried it.

Listen to your horse and the inner voice that God gave you. Don't listen to those screaming at you from your monitor. Most of them probably don't live what they type.

Yeah, I agree... it's good to have mods on the board, for exactly the reason you mentioned. I'm not on any other boards, and am not interested, but from your story and others', it just reinforces the reason I'm a TCS member and that's it.

Under the cats, mostly.
If there's one thing I've learned from being here, it's that you can pretty much ask ANYTHING - and there will be someone around who does actually know and have a good answer for you. This is a site dedicated to the care and welfare (and all the sweet, funny or annoying things that go with it) of cats - but because there are so many member - some with matching hobbies and interests, the information that gets passed around is really good. And yeah, I enjoy the fact that no-one can go uts over a comment that perhaps didn't sit well with them. There are lots of boards I've seen that are very poorly managed - so I think the MOD squad and Anne are all doing a marvelous job!

Lordy
Must be quite rewarding to work with so many different animals and help them.
