I have 2 cats - both females - littermates - 2 1/2 years old. They are WONDERFUL - a great addition to our family. However, one of them has been waking me CONSTANTLY for the past 3 nights. She is fed, has water, is not sick. She scratches the blanket and then 'taps' my face and makes her 'happy noise' - I have no idea what she wants/ needs - nothing has changed in our home or in her diet, etc. HELP!! I'm tired!!

It would appear to me that your cat is trying to get attention from you. I would guess that you would need to shut her out of the room during the night. Now that may cause meowing and scratching at the door but You'll have to ignore it otherwise if you open the door you'll reinforce this behavior.
Good Luck

Thanks for your idea about keeping her out of my room. Believe it or not, someone told me that it was because it was a full moon. I thought this person was crazy, but Boo has not bothered me at night since the full moon diminished!! Hopefully, it was just a wierd 3 night thing - feeling better -rested!

my cats too have been waking us up every morning at 5am. at first the one just rubbed his face on us but now he has gone to licking my face. we have tried putting him at the end of the bed, shoving him off, and spraying him with water but he is incredibly stubborn. finally we shut them out of the bedroom at night and now they have become destructive.

My girl Meeka comes in at 4-5am and trills and does happy noises but loud enough to wake me up. The only thing you can do is ignore them and after a while they will stop. Meeka just has a desire to be pet at this time of morning and I think I petted her once and now she won't stop.

She used to bite my nose. I'm glad she dosen't do that anymore! :p

my big Kitty wakes me up most every morning between 4 and 6 walking back and forth across me meowing until i get up and feed him. i have tried and tried to ignore him, push him off, but he comes back a couple minutes later. we're starting a diet on prescription food today so i'm expecting the problem to go on for quite sometime. i hate shutting Kitty out of my room, but this is all going to be so difficult with a diet.

i think i'm going to stop posting now because after coming from the vet hearing about his being 5 lbs overweight i'm just not the happiest and i don't want all my posts to be negative

Our cats do the same. If we leave them out they play all night or early morning and wake us up. So then we left them out but shut our door and they sat at the door meowing like crazy. Now we have had to put them in an extra room all night with their toys, bed, food and water so we can sleep. We also turn the radio on at a low volume so they don't feel so alone. Works great.

Ugh. My cat has been doing this too. He thinks 4am is the PERFECT time to play, and I've resorted to sleeping on the very edge of the bed so he has no room to try and jump on my face.

Tonight might have to be his first night out of my room. I need some SLEEP.

Until Bijou or Mika learns how to shake me hard enough to wake me, they are out of luck.
I really do sleep like a log.

Under a stack of blueberry waffles.
i put up with this kind of thing until i ended up only getting three hours of sleep in the space of five days. now the kitties sleep in a different room at night. i love them, but i love getting enough sleep as well.

I could never lock them out of our room. Sometimes I even go and get them in the middle of the night.

Oliver does the exact same thing. He has food in his dish too, but he wants fresh food.
I add about 5 pieces of dry food to his dish and he thinks he just got fed and backs off. Are they spoiled? Of course!

Harley used to do that too - he just wanted to be petted, so after I'd cuddle with him for a bit - he'd go right back to sleep. Whats funny is that he always wakes ME up...not John!

Hello

my cat has been doing the same thing. we got them back in november and now they are 9 monhts old. every night the one would wake us up by rubbing on our faces and purring at first its really cute but then it gets annoying because he doesnt stop. this went on to him waking us up by licking our faces. we tried moving him to the end of the bed, shoving him off, and spraying him with water. none of this worked so we shut him out of the bedroom. now we have been finding him becoming destructive which is odd becuase he has never done anything like this. we are assuming its because we closed the door. in the mornings they would bang on the door and wake us up at 7am my bf tried putting down a little bit of food before we went to sleep and this morning they didnt wake us up at all. try doing that. just putting a little bit of food in her/his bowl. i read on the internet that cats are most active at dusk and dawn which is obviously true!
