I purchased a bunch of raffle tickets from a local Humane Society this Christmas - most of which I gave to different people for gifts. Lo and Behold, I was the winner of the Grand Prize!!!!
A Lover's Package (I'm single!) that includes a Hot Air Balloon
ride for 2 (along with dinner, wine, a chauffered ride to and from the balloon site, various gift certificates, and a huge basket filled with massage oils and other wonderful things!). My daughter has been wanting to go up in a Hot Air Balloon for a long time and here's her chance!! Her fiance is terrifed of heights, so it looks like I have to go with her. I was excited about it, until I saw a video of an actual flight (from the perspective of the passenger). It looks a bit scary
. I'm not afraid of heights, just that feeling you get in the pit of your stomach on any ride that goes up and down too fast (I refuse to go on roller coasters). So. . . . . anyone ever been on a Hot Air Balloon that can share their own experience???

I was in one when I was younger, probably about 13 years ago. I AM afraid of heights but it was amazing. Since I'll probably never be able to get myself to go on one again, I am glad I was able to experience it once. You should go, the views are great!

Many, many years ago...

It's nothing like a roller coaster. The ascent and descent are very slow and peaceful. The only thing that may surprise you is how loud it is when they fire it up. It is amazing, though. Congratulations on winning such a fabulous prize!

No, I'm too afraid of heights....
It's a good thing you aren't. From what I've heard, the views are stunning and it's not very fast up and down, it's just peaceful and beautiful. Sounds like a lot of fun, I'm sure you'll have a great time
. Congratulations!

It's a really fun experience. Don't worry about the ascent/descent - they're really smooth. We were already up 50ft before I realised we were moving! The descent was a bit bumpy, but not scary. The worse thing was the noise of the flame - and they only have to fire it every so often.

Have fun! And congrats on winning a great prize!

One of my friends had a ride on a balloon not that long ago. The only complaint they had is they thought they were going to be the only ones and they were not. She said it was a bit crowded which disappointed her.
One of my cousins has a very large pond on their property and there is a local hot air ballon person that lands on their property. Before they land they dip the basket so it just skims the water!!! She has been up in the balloon lots and really likes it!!

When I was a journalist I hitched a ride in one once, diuring a balloon race. It was amazing, so quiet and floaty. Not scary at all.

I'm sacred of heights. I think it would be really fun though. Good for you if you can muster up the guts to try it.

Thank you for the reassurance about the take off and landing not being so bad. That's the part I fear the most. Maybe I will go up with my daughter afterall!

I would probably be petrified, but this is on the list of things I want to do before I die. I rarely see them in this area though.

How exciting! I'm so jealous. I'd love to go up in one. My daughter and I want to try sky-diving as well.

You should take a ride up to Vermont during the Quechee Hot Air Balloon festival (Usually in mid-June)
