Hi yesterday I picked up my new six month old kittens and one of them is using the bathroom with blood in their stool. Any idea what this could be? I can not tell if they are sick because they are very scared and in hiding. One allowed me to pet him yesterday and the other one allowed me to this morning so they are coming around , just the blood in the stool has me concern.

Have your kitties seen the vet yet?
They most likely have worms..... (try not to freak...it`s very normal for kittens to have them....and very unlikely that you will get them....but they need to both be seen by the vet and get it taken care of.)

No I just got them yesterday from a breeder and now I am freaking out, because a vet is not open until Tuesday. The shot records show that they have their worming done on the 5th of Jan. and two sets of shots. So you think this is normal reaction to worms?

Don't freak out! Had a similar problem a few weeks ago. I have 2 siblings that are 6 months old and like yours, both were dewormed including their appropriate shots.

At 5 1/2 months old, Chucky threw-up a worm and did have some blood in his stool. Poor little Chucky had (has) roundworms. Both kittens were given Strongid and will be given another round of it in 1 more week.

Call your vet. Tuesday and I'm sure he will want to see both kittens with a possible stool sample. Don't panic.

Your kitten needs to get to the vet immediately - blood in the stool is always a sign of something wrong.

The breeder should have known something was wrong. You don't sell a sick kitten; especially one that is 6 months old.

I would also call the breeder and ask if she was aware of this problem. And get the kitten in to your vet ASAP.

Thank you ladies,

I contacted the breeder today around luchtime and he is meeting me tomorrow to pick them up. I really hate to do this, however I have no clue as to which one it is and we can't afford to run test on both kittens to rule one out. I am just thankful that the breeder is very helpful and understanding. Now as to why he did not know , I have no clue . That sent up signals to me.
Anyway thank you again, I am new to the board and you guys have already been helpful.
