Can't fault the cops on this one

What is with kids today? It NEVER crossed my mind to take a weapon of any kind to school.

The cops did err on the side of caution. If that really HAD been a 9mm, this kid could have killed someone. Of course, we will be hearing that the parents have filed a lawsuit - never mind that their child pointed a weapon at several people and held hostages.

Just his week in our area, we had a similar incident. Two boys with a pellet gun that looked like a 9mm causing trouble on the bus home and then following a girl home, bothering her. A neighbor, who is a federal agent saw the boys pointing the gun at the girl from his window while ironing his uniform. He got his gun and ran outside to help the neighbor girl. He came within seconds of shooting the one boy who had put the gun in his waistband and was starting to reach for it. Luckily, no one was hurt, but it was close.
WHY IS IT LEGAL TO SELL THESE THINGS?????

They are required to manufacture the guns with bright orange piping or other means of ID on them, so that you'll know right away that it isn't real. However, kids often just paint over it, or remove the plastic portions with the color. . . . .

Well I know in Australia they are highly illegal.

I don't blame the cops for shooting him - I've seen these BB guns and they look like the real thing - Not to mention they can kill someone if you put metal pellets into them.

In this case, the pellet gun HAD been painted, to disguise the orange markings.

Better to take out the armed kid, than to have another school massacre.

We had a suicide by cop this week in Colorado. The woman had been convicted of animal hoarding last year. She led the cops on a high speed chase and when she was cornered took out a toy gun that looked real. They determined that the cops acted appropriately.

No, you can't fault the cops. What a tragedy, though. For his family, for the officer who shot him, for the other kids. It's a shame that no one he talked to ever mentioned his suicidal tendencies to an adult.

The boy has been declared brain dead and his organs are being donated:

The whole situation is just so tragic. I don't fault the cop, I just feel very sorry for everyone involved.

I am glad the boy's parents are donating his organs, though. At least something good will come out of this.

How awful! For everyone involved! My youngest sister is still in high school, I want her to be safe and feel safe there.

My junior year, the year of the Columbine shootings, someone decided to set off firecrackers of some sort by the buses at the end of the very last day of school. It sounded to me and a whole lot of other people like someone was shooting. I had one of those time is standing still experiences. It gives me chills to think of it. I can still see 2 of my friends turning around to wards me, their faces changing from smiles to panicked expressions. We ran, it was not funny. Some people cried.
