Hi
I have just registered and thought that I would introduce myself.

I am Jenn from Liverpool in the UK and although I don't have any cats as yet I am considering getting a couple of kittens and thought this would be the best place for some advice!
I have been offered a kitten from my neighbour whose cat has given birth to 4 kittens. They are only 5 weeks old so I have a few weeks to make up my mind but as a first time cat owner I am completely in the dark as to what I may or may not be letting myself in for

Would getting 2 kittens together be the best idea? I have 2 little girls aged 2 and 8 and I was wondering what people tought about kids and kittens or whether a slightly more adult cat would be better?
Any advice appreciated!

At the kitty's beck and call
Hi there Jenn
we're so happy to welcome you to TCS. I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay with us - we're one great big family and you'll find loads of friends here. If I can help at all while you're finding your way around TCS just click on my username and send me a Personal Message - I'll do what I can to answer your questions

I'm sure you'll find plenty of help with your decision regarding the kittens. When my little ones were small they adored having kittens around. Having a little playmate for the furry one is a great idea and if they are littermates there is no problem with rejection

Hi Jenn, welcome to The Cat Site! You will probably get more feedback regarding those questions if you make a topic in a different forum like The Cat Lounge (I think?).

In my opinion, getting 2 kitties together would be a good idea. Introducing 2 adult cats to each other later on is usually much more difficult. As kittens they can bond and get used to each other, and it makes it a lot easier if they are sibling too. I think kids are great with kitties, if they like cats- most do
. Hope all goes well!

you will be getting yourself (and daughters) into a lifetime of fun & love... there is nothing like the love of a cat

Welcome to TCS

This is a great place to come to get all the advise you need before adding kitties into your home. I think getting 2 kittens is a wonderful idea - especially 2 littermates. They will have a close bond and will keep each other company when no one is home. I have 2 cats, who came together a year apart, and I although they are good friends, I wish I had of got them at the same time.
And I can only imagine that your daughters will love growing up with kittens from a young age.

Please send me or another mentor a message if you need any help at all in the forums and ask any questions you have - always best to be completely prepared before introducing these beauty's into your life.

welcome again from me and my boys

Welcome!

I think that two kittens would be perfect. I really cannot think of anything to warn you about- just expect some scratched furniture and an scratch or two from the kittens themselves because they can play a little rough when they are young. There is also the expense of getting them spayed/neutered and their shots.

If you can get 2 kittens. They will keep each other occupied when you can't. If you don't get them from the same place they will adapt to each other quickly.

Hi Jenn and Welcome

I'm currently going through my first experience of getting two kittens together and it's been great. Watching them play is the best - not to mention groom each other, sleep etc. I'd say as far as you've got the space and can afford two, go for it!
