How can I make my yard more interesting?

My puppers are indoor/outdoor doggies.

When we are home they are in with us, and they sleep inside at night, but during the day they when we are at work they are outside and have free run of the back yard.

They have plenty of toys but, I wonder, are there things you can do to make your yard more interesting and stimulating for dogs?

I mean, can you set up obstacle courses or things like that? And what can you use apart from toys that will keep them interested?

They get a big marrow bone each to chew on which I know occupies them for a fair while, and they have Kongs and rope toys and things that rattle and things that roll, I just think that the whole yard could just be nicer and better for them.

Any ideas?

However, dogs generally don't play by themselves much anyway aside from chewing and likely spend the day sleeping when you (pack leader) is gone.

But if you can get your pups to perform obstacles and agility by themselves when you are out, then that would be amazing!!

We have an agility course in the back pasture. Of course right now it is almost underwater, but we have tires and culverts and weave poles and a jump platform.

I've heard some people devote a corner of their yard to the dogs, allowing them a place to dig if they want to - even burying toys and chews for the dogs to dig up and find.

That is a great idea! If you have the space and time, this would be much fun for the pups...Containing it may be a bit of an issue but with dedication, it would be easy

There's no place like home
What mine love more than anything in our yard is sticks. We have a lot of trees and when the branches or twigs fall, we leave them out there for the dogs. They often wander out, grab a stick, play tug of war with it, and settle down for a good chew.

this is going to be silly but how about a baby pool since they are "water" dogs

One of my dogs used to love a clothesline with a stuffed toy hanging from it on a rope. He would jump up and grab the toy and try to pull it off of the line. He could drag it up and down the yard but when he tried to run sideways the toy would "fight back".
Dogs also like a good game of "king of the castle". Give them something they can climb up on safely (like a big truck tire filled with dirt), it's simple but will entertain for hours.
