Richard Hatch, winner of the first Survivor, failed to claim the winnings as income on his tax return and is now in court.

IMO - except that it didn't cause death or even bodily that has to be an honorary-honorary Darwin Award!

Maybe he figured if he kept his clothes off the IRS would never notice him.. What a dumb move. He could go to prison- think he could survive there?

How can you "omit" to report 327K in earnings from a position as a host on a radio talk show ?

I worked for IRS for 10 years, albeit just as a data entry clerk in Collections. I thought I'd seen/heard of everything .

Not to mention the $1 million from Survivor! LOL I've never seen even ONE episode of Survivor, and I know who he is. Did he really think that the IRS wouldn't be checking that one twice?

Yea, like this goes all the way back to the first survivor...I remember that he had this issue back then. I think it was because he didn't want the government to take his money...something like he thought this was the one gameshow that you shouldn't have to pay.

Well with his ego, this doesn't surprise me.

Ooooh Heidi you should watch it - it is SO addictive!! I've only started watching it this last season but I became such a Survivor-junkie!

I can't believe how stupid he is. I heard that he thought because the check was given to him in a foreign country. (they announced the winner right at the final tribal council then) he wouldn't have to pay the taxes. DUH.... it was drawn on a US bank!! He just thought he was to "cool" to pay the taxes.

Stupid, stupid, stupid...............
