Is my cat spraying?

I recently adopted a 7 yr. old neutered male from the humane society. I have never owned a cat before, so this is all new to me. Since bringing him home he has been doing the spraying action that I read about on this site, but I don't think anything comes out. Is it possible he is spraying a small amount that I can't detect? Do cats do the spraying action w/o actually spraying urine? I get worried every time he puts his tail up. . .
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please take your male to the vet to be checked for a UTI. he sounds like he might have crystals in his urine or other problems.

Hmmm. I was just at the vet today and he didn't sound too concerned when I mentioned this behavior. After I got home and started reading more, I got paranoid that maybe urine was really coming out. He hasn't been doing it as much as when I first brought him home. I guess I will call the vet tomorrow. Thanks!

I have a female spayed cat that does all the actions - her back legs march, her tail quivers and she backs up to things, but nothing ever comes out. If he was spraying even a little, you would smell it.

My Princess does the same thing. She gives you a "what are you going to do about it?" look and then saunters away
