I don't know if this is the right forum for this question, but here goes.

We adopted Ed, a 4-5 year old toy poodle - will be two weeks tomorrow. They said he was housetrained, but we have discovered that he has peed a few places in the house. Tuesday I bought some Urine Off from my vet. Well, I discovered another place where he peed..... in my cats new tunnel that they got for Christmas
I was wondering why they hadn't been playing in it.

I washed it out with soap and water, let that dry, then used the Urine Off - followed the instructions very carefully. Now it smells worse than it did before. It's all nylon, so do you think soaking it in a tub of hot soapy water might help? I'm wondering if the problem is because it's 2 layers.

Any suggestions? I read on a dog forum that Petastic (sp) is really good, but I didn't find that at Petsmart or Petco and Urine Off was the only thing my vet had, so I went with that. I know from an old Lab forum I used to belong to, one gal there swore that vinegar and water worked great.

Thanks for any info anyone might have.

I am afraid you might have to throw the cat tunnel away
the smell of urine is pretty tough to get out , especially on fabric. And we all know how picky cats can be
As far as the peeing, it could be alot of things. First you want to rule out any urinary type of infections, so a vet visit is necessary. Aside from beeing a health problem, he might be trying to mark over the smell of your cats urine. Does he do it around their litter boxes? He might also be a little stressed caused by changing enviroments. I would do a little re-training and positve re-inforcement when he does go outside will probably do the trick.

No, he doesn't even go in the pantry (where the cat food and litter box is) - thank goodness. When we had our lab, we had to use a baby gate to keep him out of the cat stuff.

Where he has gone has been quite random and our house is brand new, so I know there aren't any prior accidents from anyone in there. I really think most of it is just the adjustment and one thing we have figured out is that he doesn't alert you when he needs out - so routine and schedule are going to be a 'must'.

We have started crating him when we are gone and watching him like a hawk when we are at home and we haven't had any accidents since my last post. He's getting very accustomed to the crate - today is the 5th day and I didn't have to 'put' him in it, I was getting it all set up and he ran in and layed down before I could get the blanket spread out. Thankfully I work really close to home, so I can spend about 45 minutes at lunchtime playing with him and letting him out - so he doesn't have to spend more than 4 hours crated at a time. I think the biggest part of the crating was me getting over my guilt leaving him in there. I had been reading lots about housetraining on the internet, and I'm realizing how much positive reinforcement helps. I'm sure my family and neighbors think I'm nuts making such a big deal over him going potty!

He's just the greatest dog. I wish I knew more about his past history. He needs a very gentle hand.

Thanks for your suggestions. I've been looking for a dog forum, but haven't found any I like yet.
