Best Food for dandruff?

Hello,

My cat has been eating Innova dry cat food for about a year now, she has really bad dandruff and i'd like to switch her to something else.

What is the best kind to go to? I've heard wet food is better, but if possible i'd like to stick to dry. If wet is the only way to go though, i will for sure do that.

Any recommendations?

(She's 3 yrs old, about 10lbs)

Pixel has this, too - somebody suggested i supplement w/cod liver oil, which most cats will lap from a spoon, but not my Pixel! she also doesn't care for most wet foods, so i'm kinda stuck there, too. i'll be interested to see what answers you get.

Innova is a good food ... I know cal natural has higher omegas that help with skin and coat ... are you on light or reg??

I found Natural Balance to be a good one for getting rid of dandruff. it was flaxseed oil in it, and once i week or so i add an omega supplement to the food to.

I also found that getting humidifier and running it when it's really cold (i.e. heat is up higher) that really makes a difference.

A good essential fatty acid supplement is what you are wanting. I use and recommend Missing Link but there are other formulas as well. Just make sure it is a cold processed product stored and refrigerated properly all the way through manufacturing, shipping, and retail point of sale.
Heat, light, and air will degrade fatty acids. So most of the products you see for sale would be deemed (by me) unsuitable simply by the use of unrefrigerated transport and hot warehouse conditions.

I buy the regular i assume. i didn't know there were two kinds. the kind i buy is in a red bag if that helps.

to get this cod liver oil or omega 3 oil, can it be bought at a health food store and then used over my cats dry food? i've looked at pet stores here and no one carries oils for food.

humidifier is a great idea, i've been meaning to get one as it is dry in my apartment

i bought mine in a health food store...Pixel won't eat it & she's the one w/dandruff...Cable & Java thinks it's fantastic! be sure to buy the regular kind, not the flavored [my health food store had cherry flavored cod liver oil
]

Hi, I will use the suggestions for treating dandruff from the inside, but my cat seems to need more targeted treatment. there is one spot in particular on her coat that is bothering her and it is full of dadruff! She keeps eating clumps of her hair out of the spot and it is thinning out. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I recently began to use use Grizzly Salmon Oil for one cat and HaloPets Dream Coat for the other and these products have made a very obvious improvements in their coats. I add it to their wet food.

What is she eating?? dry or wet ??

Nutro is garenteed to help with skin and coat .. I use natural choice with Zoey but I also like califonia natural

Omega 3 and zinc can help but the only conclusive research wise is omega 6 aka linoleic acid

If she is eating clumps I advise a trip to the vet ... it could be allergy or something parasitic..

She is eating mostly dry with wet food once a week as a treat. Her eating clumps is nothing new, she eats clumps on other areas of her body,but still possibly connected. Thanks for the info.
