I'm starting to come down with one of the run of the mill winter colds. I have my own things that I like to do (which I think are the norm) to take care of it.

- eat well
- drink lots of fluid
- OJ in particular
and rest...what are your home remedies for getting rid of a cold quickly??

Vitamin C (I mean massive dose horse pill, you won't get enough out of OJ). We have a product I got from the Health Food store which we mix into our orange juice, usually works in 24 hours (goldenseal, echinacea, elderberry, vit C, zinc, etc). The main thing if I had a choice is goldenseal in a capsule.

If you have a sore throat, it is always a good idea to do a salt water gargle also.
I hope you feel better soon!

and I also do 60mg of Zinc 2 times a day. Hit it with all this at the first sign of symptoms. You'll be done with your cold in like 2-3 days.

Otherwise, if you don't get it the first day, Aleve Cold & sinus ROCKS! It takes a lot of groggy-ness away.

Well, I don't know if my rememdies actually help with the actual cold, but they do make me feel better.

Mrs. Grass Chicken Noodle Soup. It comes in a little blue box. It's really easy to make no matter how crummy I feel. And it's 4 cups of liquid for the broth. When I'm sick, that's all I want.

And if there's a sore throat involved, a Hot Toddy. OK, sometimes even if there isn't a sore throat involved a Hot Toddy is good!

I had a cold not too long ago, and felt like crap, but I got these one cough drops that I now swear by.
They are called "cold-eeze" and they are supposed to make your cold go away much faster than it would otherwise. I took 3 one day, and the next day, my cold was gone. Very very Ironic, but the next time I get a cold, I am using them because I know think that they actually work. They kind of taste gross, but you cant chew them. Just suck on them.

Also, eating those vitamin C drops right when you notice your cold is comming. I mean eating alot of them. THey are so good anyway. And lots and lots of O.J.

Movin' on up!
With treatment, a cold will last approximately one week.

Without treatment, about seven days.

In other words, no matter what you do, the cold just has to run its course. Treat the symptoms, rest and keep well-hydrated. If the fever isn't over 100, let it run. The fever is helping kill off the virus.

I think it was a teacher actually from my hometown that invented the Airborne product. Supposed to work, but haven't tried it myself. I need to though. I am miserable.
Acetaminphen Sinus and sore throat lozenges along with the Rx med are what I am using for now.

Try some hot apple cider; it's loaded with vitamin C and it'll help your sore throat.

Also lots of water, lots of sleep (sitting up so you don't cough as much), steam your face to clear the sinuses, use tissues that have lotion in them (Kleenex or Puffs) so your nose doesn't turn raw.

Avoid being around smokers.

I use Tylenol Cough & Fever for children, it's in a red bottle (liquid stuff), it has Acetaminphen in it so it'll help knock out aches or a fever, and it really does help with a cough! Also kid's medicines are less apt to make you feel like you have balloon-head. I can't take any adult cold stuff cuz it makes me into a freaking zombie.

Feel better soon! Cold season will be over soon...

When I have a cold, my number one treatment is to stay HOME and IN BED, at least for one day of the cold. Your body needs rest to fight the infection. If you will stay home even one day and give it that rest, you'll feel better sooner (even though, as someone noted, you'll still have the cold for seven days). Your co-workers will also appreciate you not exposing them to your cold, although people are most contagious the day BEFORE symptoms appear.

On the day I stay home, I do nothing but sleep. On the days that I must work, I baby myself -- drink lots of fluids, eat chicken soup for lunch, and when I get home, I go straight to bed.

I swear by hot toddies (bourbon or whisky and hot water). They're cheaper than Nyquil and produce the same effect. LOL Fix yourself one before bed and it will help you sleep.

The cats actually like it when I'm sick ... they group themselves around me in my bedroom, one on the bookcase, one on my pillow, etc., and nap with me. As long as I'm able to get up and feed them twice a day, they heartily approve of colds. It keeps Mommy home with them! LOL

That is very good advice..it's driving me crazy not to go into work though!. I woke up this morning to find that my cold has migrated into my chest and now I'm starting to get laryngitis (sp??) I get it almost once a year. AHHH!!..for me not being able to talk is a crime
I feel bad too because there are only 2 of us that fly that airplane so I know that I've just made the other pilots day harder.
Anyways I will take all of this wonderful advice and try and get better.

Just my luck right?!
