No... I'm not going to do this to a human...

The reason I bring this up is because a friend of mine has two kittens (between 5-7 months now) and she wants to neuter the male. (She's already spayed the female.)

Unfortunately, her husband is deadset against allowing the male to be neutered. He's all for spaying and they've done it to every female cat they've had, but none of the males. From what I've gathered from my friend, he believes that just spaying is enough. (Of course we all know that's not true.)

I was wondering if anyone else has had to deal with this situation and how they dealt with it. I'd like to give my friend some suggestions with how to change his mind (the 420,000 population rate doesn't work, already tried it) or how to go about it without making it obvious the neutering was done. He's a short hair cat so unfortunately the hair won't hide the missing bits.

Anyone?

I'm not sure why it always seems the guys are so dead-set against neutering cats. You would think they were the ones getting clipped. You might tell him, that this has nothing to do with the physcial act of sex. A tomcat is not selective, he will breed with any fertile female he can find. He will also become aggressive toward them if not neutered, he will spray and his urine will reek. He will become accessively active if not let out during breeding season and can even tear wallpaper off the wall in his desire to find a mate.

Haha, that shirt is classic!

And I guess this is one of the mysteries of life that will never be solved. I've never really understood the human male devotion to the...um...bits of not only themselves, but other species. Weird.

Well, to be perfectly frank, I don't love the idea of putting my girls through abdominal surgery either. But some things are necessary even if they are unpleasant, so off they go.

I don't like having my girls have to go through major surgery, either, but it is better than the alternatives. I just don't make a big fuss and bend over holding my belly at the very thought. He acts like I might have HIM neutered while I'm at it.

Steve didnt like the idea. but..our boys who are not fit for breeding. (we only have one intact persian male) have had their boy bits taken away.
I dont liek the idea of my girls going through a major surgery and getting such bad hair cuts..but it has to be done. period.

Here all men are violently against cats and dogs being neutered. I had to do the garden feral in secret from the landlord, and I don't think they have noticed! In fact, even after being neutered there is still a sac of fur, albeit empty. My boys still have what look like little lumps, though if you press them there is nothing there. SO maybe you can just do it.

Seriously, what kind of man is so insecure that he feels his masculinity is threatened by his cat being neutered?
Many of them.
I work in a grooming shop and if you merely mention the word "neuter" to many male clients you can see them shrink and virtually grab their crotch in a protective stance.

I usually try and explain to them the power of hormones. Human beings have the brain power to know what is causing them to feel urges and hopefully have the will power to resist acting on every temptation. Failing that, they have other more solitary options. An animal does not.
So I try and express to them the unfairness of allowing an animal to be constantly filled with urges they cannot act on- urges which cause other problems in the home besides extreme frustration. The stench alone is reason enough IMO.
For a percentage of men this works, for some it does not.

If my husband were such a dolt (thankfully he is not) I would have no reservations about whisking them off and having it done behind his back.
What's he gonna do- divorce me?

Maybe you could ask the vet about some prosthetic "bits"
to hide the effects of neutering. Seriously, he needs to grow up and understand that this is about what's best for the cat's health and well-being.

I agree... my friend already asked about the prosthetics... they don't do them at the vet she's with. Unfortunately the man is question is VERY stubborn.

I've always though spayed/neutered cats were sweeter tempered as well.

And the shirt is priceless!!!

My S/O felt sorry for Diesel getting his bits chopped off but never was against it.

I think its just a testicle thing that us girls just don't understand!
