Vibes for my Dad - his feral has FeLV/FIV

I just talked to my dad in MD, and one of his outdoor cats (abt 3 y/o) had an abcess from a fight. The vet has diagnosed Buttons with FeLV and FIV, and has recommended he be PTS. Dad hasn't got the heart to do it yet - he's administering antibiotics (in isolation) to treat the abcess and hoping he pulls thru, but there are three other cats on the property who will need to be tested &/or vaccinated, which he can ill afford.

Please send some vibes for my dad, that he'll have the strength to do the right thing for Buttons if and when the time comes. He was crying when I talked to him, and it's been a tough day for him.

O no, that's awful. I feel bad for your Dad and Buttons.
I don't mean to give the feeling of false hope, but is there a chance he could get a second opinion on the felv diagnosis? I don't know if I could trust the first diagnosis of such an awful disease I would have to get a second opinion for my own confirmation.
