I agree, tubal ligation is the way to go. I had mine done at 27 and have never regretted it. I never really intended to have children, but got pregnant on the pill. I guess I was meant to have my beautiful daughter. I had gestational diabetes which caused all kinds of problems. Out of control weight gain, toxemia, and problems going into labor. She was born 7 weeks late, 10.5 lbs and 24 inches long. I never regretted having her, but no way was I going through that again!

You know, I don't think a doctor should have a choice in saying whether or not you should have your tubes tied. There are a lot of women who do not want children. I don't think it's right to be councelled either. If someone is adamant on having the procedure doen & they are absolutely sure, then let them do it without any questions.

It would be so cool if they had something similar to a tubal ligation for birth control, where they could reverse it when you decided the time was right to have kids. It'd make things so much easier on us females!
Just think..... no more hormones being shot into your body!

I don't know, I think the counselling is probably a good idea. Some people know what they want or have good reasons for doing it, other people, well, it's about other issues. You might decide you don't want children with a particular man, and you might assume the relationship is permanent, but if the situation changes you might feel differently. Or a man might pressure a woman into doing it because he's afraid to go under the knife himself, even though she doesn't really want to do it. Plus, you know there is some moron who's going to insist on it, then sometime in the future sue the doctor for not recognizing that she didn't really want it done.

Just like with any life-altering decision, I think discussion and information before getting into it is a good thing.

Sunlion - the law suits have already happened. At least around here, doctors will not even consider doing any kind of permanent birth control procedure on a woman if she is under 30 and/or has a history of major health problems with the female organs. My sister never wanted kids - not even as a little girl. She also had a lot of medical problems. She even married into kids (who she loves now, but still never wanted to have her own kids). She begged her doctors, and they wouldn't do anything. But right after her 30th birthday she "found" a doctor who would take care of it. Pretty sad for those of us who really know that kids are just not an option.

YA KNOW IT IS AMAZING WHAT SOME DOCTORS WILL AND WONT DO NOW WHEN I HAD MY TUBES TIED IN 1989 I WAS 23 YEARS OLD AND HAD HAD 9 PREGNANCIES AND ONLY 3 LIVING CHILDREN. I HAD USED THE PILL IN 1985 AND HAD AN ECTOPIC AND ALSO USED AN IUD AND GOT PREGNANT (IT WASNT INSERTED CORRECTLY) IN THE SEVEN YEARS THAT I WAS HAVING CHILDREN THEY KEPT TELLING ME I HAD TO WAIT UNTIL I WAS 21 TO HAVE MY TUBES TIED I COULDNT DO IT BEFORE THEN IN CASE I CHANGED MY MIND AND MY HUSBAND HATED THE IDEA OF THE BIRTH CONTROL HE DIDNT BELIEVE IN IT. THE TWO TIMES I USED IT HE HAD NO IDEA AT ALL AND STILL DOESNT KNOW AND I HAVE BEEN DIVORCED FROM HIM SINCE 1986 AND REMARRIED IN 1988. I HAVE NEVER HEARD THAT YOU HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL YOU ARE 30, I HAD HAD ENOUGH AND WASNT WAITING TO HAVE THE PROCEDURE DONE, I WAS SO AFRAID AS IT WAS OF GETTING PREGNANT AGAIN I BEGGED THE DOCTOR TO DO THE TUBAL, HE MADE ME WAIT EIGHT MONTHS AS IT WAS AFTER MY LAST DAUGHTER WAS BORN TO SEE IF I CHANGED MY MIND AS MY NEW HUSBAND AT THE TIME WANTED TO TRY FOR A SON AND I DIDNT, I HAD A SON AND NOW TWO DAUGHTERS WHO ARE FIFTEEN MONTHS APART. SO HE FINALLY AGREED AND IT WAS DONE. IT IS STRANGE HOW SOME DOCTORS REALLY WONT DO THIS PROCEDURE. IF THE PROCEDURE WAS AVAILABLE YEARS BEFORE I PROBABLY WOULDNT HAVE GONE THROUGH ALL THE MISCARRIAGES AND THE ECTOPIC OR THE LAPAROTOMY THAT COST ME MY LEFT OVARIES AND TUBES BECAUSE THE ECTOPIC BURST. I STILL THOUGH HAD MY TWO DAUGHTERS AFTER THIS HAPPENED AND HAVE MY SON AND WOULDNT TRADE THEM FOR ANYTHING BUT WHEN WOMEN HAVE A LOT OF PROBLEMS LIKE THAT THE DOCTORS SHOULD BE MORE COMPASSIONATE. THEY ARE WILLING TO DO IT FOR ANIMALS BEFORE THEY HAVE BABIES WHICH IS RIGHTFULLY SO, SO WHY NOT LET US MAKE OUR OWN DECISION BEFORE WE HAVE CHILDREN.

please don't let that one post drive you off. Pawz is only 12 years old and is probably in over her/his head in this thread. I'm sure no malious was intended. Hopefully you can see that the majority of people here are friendly and respectful. That post was the exception and not the rule.

I don't think it's relevent whether you are a boy or a girl, but rather that you're only 12 and this subject is a bit over your head.

I AM REALLY NOT TRYING TO TAKE IT PERSONALLY BUT IT CERTAINLY DOES OFFEND ME WHEN THINGS ARE TAKEN LIGHTLY, YOU TRY TO DO THINGS THAT ARE GOOD AND THE OFFENSIVE PEOPLE JUST KEEP CHIMING IN AND ALTHOUGH I KNOW THEY ARE ENTITLED TO THEIR OPINION THAT WAS JUST PLAIN RUDE AND I ALTHOUGH I HAVE CHILDREN TAKE TOTAL OFFENSE TO IT BECAUSE I WOULDNT LET MY 12 YEAR OLD ON HERE AT ALL,THEY CAN USE THE COMPUTER JUST NOT IN FORUMS, I DONT EVEN LET THEM IN CHAT ROOMS, MINE ARE 18, 14, 13 AND THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED IN CHATS OR ANYTHING LIKE THEM, EVEN WITH MY SON AT 18 HE IS NOT ALLOWED BECAUSE IT IS MY COMPUTER AND IF HE WANTS TO BE IN THERE THEN HE CAN GO TO HIS HOME AND PURCHASE HIS OWN COMPUTER THAT IS MY RULE THERE ARE TO MANY PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT ARE OUT FOR OTHER THINGS THAN JUST CHATTING.
YES THE MAJORITY OF EVERYONE HERE SEEMS TO BE NICE, I AM I GUESS JUST HAVING A BAD DAY. NOTHING SEEMS TO BE GOING RIGHT AND I HAVE SAT IN MY VEHICLE FOR TWO HOURS TODAY WAITING FOR SOMEONE AT AN APPOINTMENT AND IT IS FRUSTRATING. BUT NO MATTER I WILL TRY TO NOT TAKE OFFENSE BUT I WILL ANSWER LESS I THINK THAT WAY IT WONT HAPPEN AGAIN. SORRY.

Ken, I wish you'd have been around about 5 years ago- you could've talked some sense into my hubby
He flat out refused to even consider having it done. He'd cringe
if I even mentioned it

Obviously, I can't relate being a female and all, but thought I would comment...

Two of my really good friends' husbands had IT done. Eric told us every little detail - he just had to show how brave he was! He actually said that the procedure itself and the recovery weren't bad at all (he said he was a little sore after the first day, but still did a bunch of stuff around the house - MANLY stuff too!). He said the worst part was all the women nurses that were in the procedure room and had to come in and check on him after.
Something about shrinkage....

I was going to have a tubal done back when, after my daughter was born. I just never got around to it. Then all of a sudden the insurance stopped covering it. Wish I hadn't been such a procrastinator.
