Ok, so yes, I have my BA in Anthropology and no one (but me) seems to know what that is. Yes, people are obsessed about "credentials" these days and can't bother to look past the title into what the degree actually means. AND yes, all of this means that I work at a coffee shop, part time after a whole year of being unemployed.
I don't know how I find stupid bosses! I'm starting to think that it's me, but everone around me seems to be agreeing. This latest one is a doozey.
She owns the store. She's completely disorganized (all of my paycheques have been wrong + or -); she yells and when she yells she shakes and gets blotches; if you don't do it her way, it's the wrong way and she's never around to show you her way until she catches you doing it wrong; she hired me on for 24 hours a week, and gave me 8 this week....she even announced that she didn't think that I (newbie) and corrie (nice lady) were "running the place" properly after she pretty much put it in our hands and left for a month.
I arrived today (had to walk cuz my car is broken) for my 4 hour shift (woopie 4 hours!) and was told to go home in an hour because they weren't busy enough. Do you know how much I'm making this week? $30! Yep! That's it!!!
I'm looking for a new job, I hear there's an opening at one of the local banks that I might be able to slide into via customer service skills. I wish something would arrive tomorrow though, so I could be like buh bye
and leave ASAP.
Stupid sucky jobs...I wish I could figure out a profession so I could go back to the safety of school.
I'll show her! I'm gonna have a nap this afternoon! mwahahahahaha (evil laugh).

i have a BA in Business which focuses on Logistics/Production. Only 11 of us in the school were able to graduate in it since it was based off of math. to this day people ask me what that is and i tell them to wave at the truck drivers that drive by cause i would be one of the people telling them which warehouse to go to....duh.....

i have worked for the state of CA for over 6 years (throughout my schooling) and quit....stupidity is everywhere!!!!! your boss is probably uneducated and unhappy. more than likely she is unhappy in her life, marriage, or just does not have the basic management skills to run a small based company.
i get sick of people in management positions that really don't know what they are doing and especially don't understand the basic laws and regulations for human resources. you have to wonder how they got these positions!

Yeah, I've thought about going to florist school and opening my own business, but this experience has scared me. First of all...what happens if I fail miserably? Then there's the ...what happens if I'm a crappy boss? I hate to think of it, but it's possible.
The funny thing about this recent lady is that she actually has her BA in buiness and is finishing her Masters of Ed. She's a smart enough lady, just has no organization or human skills. I guess some people have it and some dont.

Unfortunately, many people who own businesses aren't business-people. I saw that SO much when I worked in the construction industry. They were good at construction, and even at running a construction crew. But when it came to running a business, they were clueless. It's harder than it seems, and it seems that everyone thinks that owning your own business is the ideal life.

You have my sympathy. Working for people who shouldn't be in management can make the best job in the world suck.

Sharky - Anthropology is not just about ancient civilisations. It is about culture. Its a very very fascinating subject and I majored in it for 2 years before I realised that knowing about culture isn't going to get me very far.

I wish you all the best Sylorna in finding the perfect vocation for yourself. Good luck!

Oooo!!! I feel for you! I've been through that. I have a pretty good boss, but my last one I never knew if I was going to get laid off or not. And things were kind of fishy working there.

Valanhb has a point. A lot of people that decide to start their own business usually have a hard time working with others. Plus with it being her business, she sounds like she has this fixation on how things should be done and that everyone should automatically know what to do.
It's never fun that way.

I wish you lots of luck...but keep in mind, the retail jobs will have those types of people. See if you can't get an admin assistant job, maybe with an agency that is along the lines of your field. Then you can keep your foot in the door and up to date on a lot of things. Just a thought.
